Do you have the screws in the holes under the flaps? Not sure where they drain to but they could possibly be removed from a roof rack or previous owner?

Prolly time for a cleaning anyway since it's not garaged.
Used to a little moisture here and there with my cab, but but this will start to mildew.
Prolly time to fix those pesky window sensors as well.

Still open to suggestions.
Hi,

Could you post a link the where you found the drain tubes on the sunroof?

The roof rack mounting points have zero access to the inside of the car. The screw holes for the mounts do not pass through to the interior - they are flat bottomed holes. So any water that gets in the roof rack mounting locations or under the trim along the roof edges overlapping the roof rack mounting locations remains on the outside of the car.

Have run across this many times with friends cars and once or twice my own. My experience and talking with mechanic friends says the first place you look with these symptoms is the A/C condensate drains. Especially if you have water in the passenger side footwell. Sometimes you can even hear the water slosh around on hard turns. Had a Corvette that began to pee all over my right leg on ever hard right.

They drain around the battery I think and out the rear fender wells. The post describes it. I haven't gotten that far yet. I'll report back.

Cheers

Poured about a pint and a half in the front sunroof corners to see if the drains are draining.
Both drained well and quickly, so its not them.
On to the ac condenser drain.

Thank you Michelle for all of the condensation on the inside of my windows in High School. I wish it was a Porsche instead of a VW Rabbit.

LOL! If it was a Porsche, you would still be paying today. Be careful wait bait you use... you will catch a different fish.

Peace

If the door was replaced a few years ago, I'd bet that the vapor barrier behind the interior door panel is not sealing properly. I had this happen on a BMW a number of years ago. Removed interior panel, resealed the plastic barrier with a thin line of RTV sealant, problem solved.

Also, you mention window drop-down feature not working properly. Water may have came through the top of the window if it didn't automatically raise and went unnoticed. From experience on my C4S, an undercharged battery will cause the electrical system to do funky things, as will a faulty switch.

Interior door panel removal is in my future. Window sensors and switches. Prolly replace all of them while I'm in there.
Still need to run the ac to rule that out.
Been somewhat rainy and the carpet is still dry.

Eggcelent..... the neurosis is spreading.... post your journey please. You may find the cost of all those pieces parts may change your mind a bit... I suspect you will see clearly what if any part is compromised.

There are a few good posts on door removal.... I took a few good photos when I replaced a microswitch that may help: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...croswitch.html

There is an excellent Coppola movie about obsession.....

Rainy most of the weekend. Did not drive the car at all.
Monday morning, check the floor carpet . . . . . WET.

At least I know what it is. Time to order some parts and study up on door panel removal. I'll post some pics of what I find.

Cheers.

door panel removal is a cake walk. maybe 20 min a side your first time. Just make sure you have all the screws out before you try popping the clips. also, I'd order a few extra clips just in case.
