I know a LOT about the watercooled cars and as someone who wrenches on his own, I would need to educate myself more before moving to aircooled to figure out what I want (and don't want) to work on.
Wont be a problem for another year. Substantial house upgrade is coming first. I'm also looking forward more to just having my own garage. What a time to be alive.
I've been down the air-cooled track car road as I used to club race an SC in E stock and have also owned three other air-cooled 911s that I've done a lot of work on. If you get to the point of considering one I can answer any questions about wrenching and what you can expect from a car like that vs the GTS. Looks like you've got your hands full for the moment with the M3.

It arrived and it is glorious.

I'm working on the M3's paint and front end the next couple of weeks and will likely get this in for paint just before the Christmas break.
So look for an update on the ducktail near the new year.

I wish. I knocked out the decals and they are waiting to go on the car but before I could get the ducktail to the paint shop I went ahead and bought a house. So, no time for for the car yet and no rush since Chicago is still covered in salt. More to come I promise.

In the meantime, I'm building the GTS (and his friends) a new home.

What does the underside of the duck tail look like? I've seen aftermarket and OEM 997.2 Aerokit tails and wasn't too impressed with the assembly of the aftermarket part. The intakes didn't line up well and the mesh in the intakes held in place with caulk. The OEM part was much nicer. Of course, it costs more.

What is your impression of the fit and finish of your tail?

the underside of the Getty ducktail for the 997.2 is identical to that of the OEM 997.2 aerokit. The screens are held in place by what looks like black silicone adhesive. Pretty standard. I’ll test how flush it fits with some pressure tape once I get it on the car. Getty gets a good rep so I’m expecting good results.

Thanks for the reply. I too await your results.

You are quite resourceful and tasteful with the mods.
Do you still have/need the SportsDesign steering wheel. I like the buy it if you still have it.
Also, where do you source the tail-light tint from ?....I like it.

This has been a long hiatus. Between designing the new house's interior, the new garage and finishing the M3 restoration I haven't had a lot of free time for the GTS. It's still under cover for another few weeks anyway.
BUT I do have some fun things coming.

Including.....

This summer I joined the board of Checkeditout Chicago to add operations, marketing and advertising expertise to this unique convergence of Porsches in a downtown Chicago setting. We were supported by many regional and national organizations and businesses including PCNA who arranged for Porsche’s very own Ray Shaffer to be a keynote speaker at our pre-event reception. Many of you attended and many of you participated in the event. Thank you to all who supported us this year. If you’d like to learn more about what we’re doing to raise money for charity through our collective passion for Porsche here in Chicago, head to https://www.checkeditoutchicago.com/ and follow us on Instagram at https://instagram.com/checkeditoutch...=12q15ni854yft or @checkeditoutchicago.

Here are a few shots of my ride from the event.

We were almost triple in size in our second year but are considering restricting the size to around 200 cars in the future for logistic reasons. One of our brand identity values in ‘inclusiveness’ So hopefully we can adhere to that value while managing the scale of the event as it grows both in size and in character. More to come...

Default Like father like son

During the winter lull and now unprecedented WFH situation I decided to go forward with a fun idea I had been toying with. The seat inserts Ed did for me are outstanding and I get a lot of compliments on the quality and design. We did good there.

I thought about how to use the left over fabric. Maybe a keychain or console lid?

Well there was just enough left over to cover the insert of my son’s car seat. I wasn’t as worried about the quality here so I just asked my local laundromat/tailor to bang it out. They get a pass on centering the pattern since there wasn’t enough to do so but they did as good a job as $75 buys any day and man does this look sharp!

I’ll hopefully get these into the car in a couple weeks after it warms up here in Chicago.
Stay safe out there, all.
