My 911 is not a daily driver, and that is what makes the decision easy. No, I do not want to trade from a 997 to a 991. I agree the 991 is what I'd want if I had plans to daily drive the car, but I don't. Of course we all tend to defend our purchases, but I think the 997 is the "just right" version of the 911. The 993 is beautiful, but a bit raw. The 991 is too much of a tourer even though it is faster around a track. The 996 is not attractive. The 997 has the looks, just enough creature comforts, but still has an edge to it.

I envision one day trading my 997.2 C2 for a 997.2 GTS and then just keeping it for a decade or more.

Why did they do that to the mirrors, ours look so much better and even more modern.

And once you see the line in the rear hips, it's hard to ignore it. Did they need a wider wing for more downforce?

 

I will 1000% just a matter of finding the right car.

 

No interest in a 991. For me, the 997 is the right balance of everything and I now have my car exactly the way I want it. It's unlikely I'd ever sell her and someday will probably pass onto my son as he loves it just as much as I do, but that's probably 40 years from now - Ha!

 

Right now I'm not interested. I've had the 997 for 5 yrs and it still puts a big smile on my face. I have fond memories of many road trips that make it more special. I also like the fact I know exactly where I am with maintenance and every small scratch and ding I'm intimate with. I've kept it very clean and it looks and drives like a new car.

In a few years I'd consider a 991.1 manual gts. But that is the only variant I'd consider. I am concerned the gearing could be too high. Most of my driving is city below 50 mpg so I'd want to spend considerable seat time in a 991 before I jumped. I'd be interested in feedback on this from people that went from a 997 to a 991 gts. In fact if I could decrease the final gear ratio of the 997 with an aftermarket mod I'd pay for that. I think Porsches is missing this issue especially on their new models right now

 

Yes, the rear of the 991 is hideous. It won't age well either.

I am sure the same can be said of some people too.

 

...and the 991.2 even worse with the vertical grill slats and odd exhaust pipe spacing on the PSE version. Why they want to make the back of a 911 look like an Audi TT, I have no idea. They say it's so air can better go down to the intercoolers and exit out the vents in the rear bumper, but I don't understand why a vertically oriented slat works better for this than a horizontally oriented one - in fact, I think horizontal ones could be made to better deflect air into the intake and intercooler ducts.

 

I believe the side mirrors were moved back to the doors on the 991 for aerodynamic reasons.

 

I love the 991 Targa, but at this point in my life, the 997 Targa, with the sliding roof and back window that opens up like a hatchback is much more practical for me, since I use the car as a daily driver.

 

I wonder if the new 991 mirrors whistle, too?

 

i first got a 996, then 997, then 993s, then 964. i'll never get a 991--not even an a 991gt3/r/rs. now a 997.2 turbo s or gts is a different story.

 

If I do look for buried remains in the back yard. Question my wife.

 

Maybe, just not sure though. There is a 997.2 at my dealer. I have looked at it 3 days in a row.
My 997.1 is in great condition, so it is a tough decision. Might go back again today??
