Default Valentine One Question

Valentine is advertising that they have improved their junk K band filtering. Has anyone either bought a new V1 with the new programming or had his old one upgraded with the new filter?

I am curious to know how this works before I send my two-year-old V1 in to have the upgrade done.

I think it is fantastic. The thing falsed so much without it, the unit was literally useless in northern NJ.

Read my write up here:

I have a new one, never had the old, but the only times I get the odd false alerts are in heavy traffic when I'm traveling at or well below the speed limit anyway. In those situations I mute or it turn off anyway.

I have an older unit that I sent back a few months ago for the software refresh. Do it. It's night and day. The thing used to constantly beep and now it's once in a while.

I have one of each - old unit where I programmed it to act as I wanted it in the little L mode. Worked very well with minimal false hits. Got a new one and tested it without any programming in A mode. Worked almost as good as my old unit with programming. This past weekend, I programmed the new unit to similar state as my old one, and it is excellent. I think they have done a great enhancement with the new filtering algorithm.

Spend very little time on highways. Most of my driving is on backroads. Have little to no issue with falses. Been thinking of getting the update, but at near $300 not worth it to me.

I have a two year old one and I never touch it. The faster my cars get the slower I drive.

V1 does not advertise its updates enough; only recently they are doing it and in my view not making it clear enough. Casual V1 owners do not check and do not update their units and often complain.

Yes, an updated V1 (with the proper settings set) has no falses. For those who understand SIGINT, the V1 is the right tool.

Is the k-band still useful to detect these days? A lot of my friends here in CA have it disabled and I've been debating doing th same myself.

I bought my V1 in 2004 and have never had it updated. About every two years I consider doing it, and then I forget all about it. This thread has me thinking it's finally time to do something. I will report before/after results once I have it updated.

With the new filters, you don't have to. It is that good. Not perfect, but you won't need to disable it.

Peace

In CA I have found very few LEOs with K band guns... read ... 1 in 5 years. But I can tell you when I'm near an automatic door . As Bruce noted above, the new software fixes most of that, and if you program it to mute K band for 20 or 30 seconds, you will not be bothered ... just be careful if you encounter that lone K band LEO.

Thanks guys--especially Bruce. I promise I did a search before I asked the question but somehow I missed Bruce's thread that directly answered my question.

I guess I'll bite the bullet and send mine in. I do hope the cost is less for newer units. I'd be a little miffed if my less-than-2-years-old V1 cost almost $300 for the update.

You may want to order the bluetooth dongle which makes it very easy to adjust settings using a phone app.
