I agree it is full of errors.... but...

I realized that the crowd will ID a Roz with someone pulled over. That is their only temporary position of course so when I arrive, they are not there. This is to be expected as that is not their post. So.... the way I look at it.... Waze tells me there is a Roz in the area and on patrol. Good enough for me.

Good description - look at it like a fuzzy rumor. Not very useful.

Also... how can one be driving and paying attention to the app as it does not speak on a timely basis the info of interest? As a passenger I can check the app and make sense of it (sometimes) and pass the right info to the driver. As a solo driver, not so much. Just another distracting gadget, like so many these days. Multitasking is not a good driving mode, especially piloting a sports car.

A radar detector (V1 or whatever you like) properly interpreted to heighten situational awareness in the background, without imposing itself on one's driving attention mode, that is what's needed. YMMV.

Just an update. I sent my V1 off to Valentine this morning for the Junk K Fighter update.

My detector is, maybe, two years old. I'm not really happy about having to pay for an update on a detector that is this new, but whatever--it's cheaper than buying a new Escort.

Because mine is so new, the price is $79, plus the $15 to ship it back and the $19 to ship it out and insure it.

I will try to post an update on how it filters out the crap signals from automatic doors, cruise control and proximity warning radars.

You need to program it. Easier to do with the BT dongle and a smartphone app.

Actually, I think V1 now ships with the filter "on". They didn't do this when I had the update so I had to turn it "on". I suspect they got smart as the V1 without the filter is, frankly, useless in crowded areas like northern NJ.

No dongle needed by the way, you can program it from the ****.

Makes sense if they set the popular filters as default.

True you can program it using the ****, but it is a pain. The BT/app is a nice solution.

I've got the dongle and the app, so I'll check to make sure the Junk Fighter is on when they ship it back. Thanks for the reminder.

I just turned on the junk fighter about a month ago. I purchased mine in August 2014 and it was on the device but turned off. Much, much better in city situations.

Reading all these threads about updating the V1 makes me very glad I bought a Passport Escort Max 2. Valentine seems a bit like a bait and switch marketing plan. It's like Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank made a radar detector and he keeps getting his perpetuity payments.

I don't know about that. I bought mine five years ago and just had it updated for the first tim about six months ago. Profiles and needs change. I've more than gotten my money's worth on the V1.

For sure, the V1 is not obsolete. I've put $1,500 toward the idea that's it's still the best detector for me personally.

I own 3 of them, used every day in an Audi S5, Audi A7, Carerra S

I've owned cheaper ones and they are worthless. I've seen the comparable "cutting edge" models from Passport, etc. Yes, they provide features that V1 does not have.

You must consider if those features are additive or even may cost you. GPS lockout sounds cool, cutting edge and all. Check out V1 website for the unintended downside to this cutting edge feature.

I did send in my oldest model because the cars with side assist radar were giving false alarm on highway, came back perfect. Best $79 I've spent.

Bottom line ... I trust V1 and I've researched them all.
Just recently when getting ready to buy my 3rd one for the Porsche I researched them "one more time" ... I was hoping to try something new or better
Landed right where i started, still can't beat the V1

couldn't say it any better...

Had my first V 1 in circa 1998, she still runs to this day..

Looked for an upgrade or better manufacturer for my new car in 2012, went with V 1 again...

Added another to the stable last month for my newest car. I appreciate the fact that along with the ability to upgrade them, their prices have been pretty much constant over the decades for the most part

V1 is great. On the highway, it's the detector to own.

However, in an urban setting prone to falsies is where the Passport Max series detectors outshines the V1.

Both are great. Get the one that suits how you use your car

Absolutely! The V1 is a proper measuring instrument and as such mastering it is key.

Are you comparing your Max to the latest V1 with Junk on?

I have not read a good head to head with this. And, of course, the axe murderer in your closet now is...... maybe the quiet good performance is actually poor detection or overly-aggressive filtering? How does anyone know? I suspect this worry over the filter is why V1 originally shipped with it OFF.

So as a marketer, do you sell a highly filtered unit and call it great at rejecting false detection, or offer a super sensitive one with additive filters?

Just for the record: I see no reason, after all these years, all detectors shouldn't have the same performance. I stuck with V1 simply because I liked it... no religion here.

Peace
