Looking at 997.2's for daily driving duties and the standard Carreras I'm finding are 6-8k less than C2S's and C4S's.
Am I crazy for considering the plain Jane carrera non s 997.2? What say ye? Can the 3.6 get the job done? Will I regret not getting a 3.8? Hmmmm

The 3.6L Carrera is a great car.

Panorama actually preferred the non S motor to the S motor in the 997.1. If you like it, go for it. These cars don't grow on trees, particularly nice models at 10 years old.

Have the 3.6, MT and it's crazy fast. Only 10 HP down on the 997.1S (according to Porsche but who knows what the real dyno story is) and faster to 60 if memory serves me. This is the rationale I use whenever the "shoulda got an S" creeps into my mind - My 2009 C2 is faster than a 2008 C2S.
Same or similar size brakes as the 997.1S too. Oh and the money I saved on the purchase, I put into mods to make it perfect - lowering springs, SharkWerks, new steering wheel, etc....
After 3 years, I can honestly say no regret at all - certainly not disappointed with the 3.6L power-wise.. I'd slightly modify what another poster said so eloquently in answer to your post "of course it will, and of course YOU might".

Drive them both, then decide. I got an S because it was in the color combo I wanted (& if I spent any more time on cars.com, mu wife was going to strangle me!)...T

I got a non S, and to be honest, it's not that much of a difference. I'm not just saying that because I'm owning a non s model, it's facts. It's a little bit faster, yes. But AWD makes much more diffrence in acceleration and speed than comparing s to non s.

The S has more low end torque and that's something these cars don't have a ton of. If you'll be doingva lit of around town driving more low-end torque could make a big difference. The S also has a lot of things standard that someone would have had to add as options. Neither sound system is great, but the Bose is better and stock on the S, as is PASM. Full leather makes a big difference in cabin quality and the experience when you're in the car, but that's not standard on either so you might want to find a car that has it. Either is a good choice, but as someone else suggested, drive both and decide.

I went S only because I know myself and know I would have second guessed myself every day if I only got the C2.
Now I have a car that Leaves me nothing to "want", yes a turbo would be nice....but why?? Besides the cool rear quarter vent I see no advantage to it because mine is already faster then what I need. I also like the looks of the 997 over the 991 so no "wants" there either.
If you can say that about the C2 over the C2S then your question is answered.
