If debadged (I broke my "g" on Targa last summer) what is best way to measure / document where emblem goes in case I don't like it to be debadged? Is it as simple as making some cardboard templates to use to position the replacement?
This is a very common problem for those of us who actually wash our cars, by hand!
Placement is always a challenge because we don't have all those factory templates that make positioning easy. Just mask (blue tape) off the limits of the original piece and then clean that area very well. Position it first without removing the backing to make sure you know how it should go, and then take off the backing. Use something similar to the factory tool--a simple wooden roller, to press it into the decklid.
Many also consider the opportunity to paint their badge to match the car.
Thank you all for the replies. I finally got around to removing the emblem. It came out ok. There is some "ghosting" where the emblem was. Used a rubbing compound, but is still there. Any suggestions? I like the look, but am still considering a graphite colored emblem to put back on the car. Edgy01 I like the way yours is done. Beautiful color by the way.
I tried out an "old school" look when my badge broke. I ordered the black "911" badge but when I removed the old Carrera badge, it had etched into the paint......so I went with this route for the time being.
Sadly, after any amount of time the emblems are pretty much there forever--they do affect the soft paint when first installed. You will have to put something back there (as seen, above) to camouflage that flaw. A good buffer can help reduce the look a bit, but go easy.

A good detailer with paint correction experience will make the "ghosting" go away.
I caught the “C” from Carrera while washing my car, but it’s still intact and the rest of the badge is still attached. Any suggestions for getting the C reattached? Or should I remove it, clean everything and reattach with 3M adhesive? What specific adhesive would you recommend?
