Default LED tail light conversions. What kind did you go with?

I'm the 4th or 5th owner of my 05 997. At some point someone had LED taillights installed with smoked lenses. I don't hate the smoked lenses but it's not what I would have chosen. Plus, believe it or not, some of the LED bulbs are out and I have a constant error light illuminated. I want to replace both lenses with some red/white LED set up but with so many things popping up on eBay when I search I don't know which ones I should consider legit and which are garbage. What have you guys used. Photos? Prices? Experiences?

Depo LED lights seem to be the most popular.

I went with the Depo tail lights. I am actually very much into Oem+ style updates or mods and was on the fence for a long time regarding led tail lights, I think the current market trend and seriously advanced led styles from Audi and such have made this a non issue. Plus the fact the Depo version so closely mimics the .2 design. Non porschephiles can't even tell.

Go with Dectane or Depo. Avoid Spyder. You can probably repair the ones you have with an inexpensive resistor but since you don't like them anyway and some LEDs are non-functioning, just replace t HD me with a red and clear set. If you post a pic of your current ones, I can likely tell you what brand they are unless they're so deeply smoked that I can't see the shape of the led arrays or post pics with the lights for each function illuminated.

I think the Dectane lights are made by Depo. As I recall, there is a US version and a European version. If you purchase the correct version, then you shouldn't have any issues or warning lights.

None of the aftermarket LEDs look exactly like the 997.2 factory units, but the Depo lights are as close as you can get.

Depo/dectane is what I've had for 2yrs. Also have upgraded led turn signal/fog lights from Taiwan. Aside from the wonky connectors, I've had no issue with them.

Avoid Dectane. I bougth my first set from them and it kept giving an error code and one side stop working after 6 month. I tried to get in touch with them to no avail.

I finaly ordered a set from Depo on ebay and they have bee working flawlessly for the last 3 years.

As Dennis stated, Depo and Dectane are actually the same lights, manufactured by Depo. You just got a bad set your first time around. When they start throwing a code it's usually a resistor that has gone bad, and G-forceTarga4S has done a nice write up either here or on 6speed to resolve the issue. That repair only works if removing the light from the car and applying 12v to each circuit makes it work. It's the car that's cutting power to the light because it's sending a bulb out condition due to not enough resistance from the light.

I like the Dectane as they mimic the .2 look better than any others. The quality is good and I get no errors. I bought mine from Orange Tuning (contacted Frank using site form) in Germany and received what at the time was a price that was as good or better than anywhere else. Painless process.

I was part of the 2nd group buy from Orange Tuning, had mine 3 or 4 years now, no issues. It's the most OEM like, the other one from Rotec looks more aftermarket.

I've not seen that version. Did you purchase them that way or did you tint the normally clear center part? I have the all-over lightly smoked ones on my RUF car, and the standard red & clear ones on my wife'es car.

lightly smoked Dectanes (bought from them this way) - NLA from Dectane
