Ummmm…. Not to add cold water, but your location is posted as Chicago/San Francisco. If your car is in Cali, major exhaust mods can kill your smog check certification and some of the local tracks, Laguna Seca, have decibel limits that can put you off the track…….. be careful
I have a Tubi on my 997.2S. Love the sound. Am in Cali and have had no issues with passing smog.
Love the sound. It has toned down a bit though since the initial install. I was going to just do the Gundo, but scored a deal I could not say no too on the Tubi. It was a bit loud at first, and the farting was VERY noticeable. But, after a while, it toned itself down and now love the sounds.
After hearing and running full muffler bypass, then bypass with glasspack resonators, then hearing the Gundo thing and the PSE hack, and after hearing Fabspeed Maxflo and some other common catbacks, and knowing the price and the cost of new tips (if you want them)... and seeing how some systems fit or don't fit....
I settled on a Borla system, after hearing one (tips included, and each of the four tips serves an actual pipe). It's exactly what I want. It does make itself known in the cabin, but it's not beating me down like the bypass pipes or bypass with resonators, and it's not a mild step up like others. It is aggressive, but not ridiculous.
What's this all mean? You need to go hear a variety of systems, from inside and out. Videos on line are useless.
I got the Sharkwerks center rear muffler bypass.
Sounds great and it's comforting knowing I didn't loose power or torque (actually gained a few according to Sharkwerks ) Works well with the sports exhaust. Sports exhaust alone was underwhelming.. here's a demo. Ignore the nerdy guy talking. ..that's just me

Contact Darrin fister. You can swap out your mufflers yourself in an hour. easier if you take the wheels off I find. Car sounds great. No drone at all at any speed. Nice snarl burble at idle, then relatively quiet until 3500 rpm or so. You can quietly drive down your street at 6 AM and not wake up your neighbors unless you really want to.
Inexpensive
Great sound
Bolts right up as it's OEM
Easy DIY
Loud when you stomp it, quiet when you don't
I have the full Fabspeed setup on my 997.1 C2S - headers, Valvetronic Mufflers (their version of PSE and my car already has the PSE button so no additional integration), 200 cell X-cats - it has custom tips to work with the RUF rear bumper. In sport mode, at higher RPMs, it's awesome. I will tell you there is a slight cabin drone when not in sport mode - quieter outside makes it louder inside but there are other variables with my car that could contribute to that like the forced induction Supercharger and/or the RSS semi solid engine mounts.
I had a set of FVD non-valved versions prior to the Fabspeed setup and they were a little too quiet for me, but their quality was very nice. I polished them up prior to selling and they looked like new again.
As others have said, you can't beat Gundo or Fister for bang for the buck - my wife's car came with the Gundo setup from the previous owner and we've liked it enough not to change it. A deeper burble than the Fabspeed, which has a higher more race-car sound. Even higher and racier than the Fabspeed sound would be Innotech.
I've been off of this forum for over a decade. So long that I had to register all over again as I don't have access to the email address I used back then. Anyway, I am just about ready to upgrade the exhaust on my 2005 Carrera S. Most of my experience with aftermarket modifications was with my 968s and 944s. I used B&B exhaust upgrades on those but am looking for recommendations from other 997 owners on a good combination of performance and sound at a reasonable price. So far I am leaning toward Fabspeed for the 997.
