The Mezgar engine is superior. The cabriolet is very robust, and nothing like a cabriolet from 20 years ago.

The turbos of today do not sound as nice as the NA cars. Just the facts. You have to spend a bit more to get a very custom exhaust to exploit the acoustics within that engine.

You're right about the turbo sound lacking compared to a normally aspirated car. It does sound much better with the top down though.

it looks like the 09 still has the Mezger engine, but not the LED tails.

IS the front the same on the .1 & .2 TT's ?

and does anyone have any pics of an 09 TT interior ? (I'm wondering what the interior changes were)

Yes, 2009 has the older 997.1 taillights. 2010 gets the 997.2 LEDs.

2009 interior is same as 2010 and all 997.2 cars. 2008 is the same as all 997.1 cars. The main change is the PCM unit, the 997.2 unit is more user friendly and offers Bluetooth and a few other things that a 997.1 doesn't have. Here are links to cars for sale so you can see pics and differences:

To sum up the interior changes for the 997.2 turbo:

- Ventilated seats became available in the .2
- Different steering wheel design in the .2
- Black plastic instead of gray plastic on the center stack
- The switch used to activate the cabriolet top is slightly different in the .2 cab
- PCM 3.0 instead of PCM 2.1

The rest of the interior is identical. You can add aftermarket bluetooth capability and streaming audio to PCM 2.1 that works very well, but 3.0 is touch screen, it features a larger screen and a 40 GB hard drive for music.

The .1 and .2 front looks the same, but there are slight differences. The headlights were improved in the .2 and the fog lights in the bumper were eliminated and became the LED DRLs. The .2 cars also have larger side mirrors.

Thanks guys, for the very thorough explanations. I learned something new.

Are you saying that bluetooth streaming wasn't available with the 07-09 turbos ?

also, wonder where the market falls from a value equation...ie. is it just a little bt more to go to a 10 than an 07 because the rest of the car is so similar, or does it follow the same sort of path as other 997.1 and .2's ?

Wonder where the buying sweet spot is in terms of years (assuming similar mileage options, etc)

Found a manual, 2009 Turbo cab with 14,500 miles for buy it now 89k...it is black with tan interior...based on what everyone has been saying and my past/current experience, I think a low-mileage, manual 2009 Turbo Cab would be a SWEET ride! Have you thought about a 991? I am seeing 2015's that went unsold for 12-16% off MSRP, getting down into the $90k's...all depends on what kind of feel/car you want. In my opinion, either get the newest PDK car you can afford in your favorite trim, or go the manual 09' Turbo route...as they would be two totally different cars and experiences. GL finding the right one...you will know

Pic is of an 09' Turbo interior as requested

I believe it's available for the 2009 turbo since it has PCM 3.0. The older PCM 2.1 in the 2007 and 2008 turbo can easily have it added with an aftermarket solution. Several are available. I use the Mobridge system and it works well.

I use the Dension in my '05. Works great for streaming, but call quality isn't great, probably because the car is loud inside.

I see... the centre stack is the difference in the 09 &+ models.

Is the functionality better, and can that centre stack just be swapped out, or does it get really complicated having to splice a harness, etc?

For the stereo it would be easier to swap in an aftermarket system. PCM 3.0 in 2009-2012 Porsches is ancient if you like tech. Very likely cheaper to add aftermarket than to swap get a fully functional porsche system retrofitted.

The climate controls can be switched but the ac won't work. Need to swap a relay or two out from my reading.

If needing more functionality with the stereo, it depends on what you want. Nav? Cellular phone? iPod/Bluetooth music streaming?

It can be done, but it's expensive and it doesn't add much. As mentioned above, the "newer" PCM 3.0 is also out of date at this point, especially compared to aftermarket systems.

Again - aftermarket bluetooth solutions are a good option. I updated the nav maps in my PCM 2.1 last year and it works very well for navigation on the rare occasions that I use it. With the Mobridge system, I have streaming bluetooth audio and bluetooth calls. Would it be nice to have a larger screen, a hard drive and a slightly simpler user interface? Sure. Nice enough for me to change it? Nope.

To me, there are other changes from the 997.1 to the 997.2 turbo that are more interesting than the radio.
