Default New guy - simple question: spoiler

C4S

1. How can I tell while driving (if possible) that the spoiler has deployed (extended)?

2. I believe it auto extends at 85MPH - any way to change that to another speed?

3. What is it doing if you are cruising at or around 85 (if that is the speed) - Does it go up and down constantly (I doubt) if traveling at 84 then 86 and back to 84 etc.

Thanks for satiating my curiosity.

I don't think about It and I think you will care less and less if it's up or not the more you drive.

I have checked the mechanism sometimes when standing still but that's just to check if it needs lubrication or not.

Sometimes on hot summer days it will open up even at low speeds but then it is due to that the engine compartment temperature is too high. Separate sensor for that. People might think you just show off but it's really just to keep engine cool.

I believe the speed is 72 or 73 MPH. I'm going to guess you have hit the button and it functions properly, if so, it more than likely works at speed. When I first got my car I had my daughter look out the back window as I couldn't see it going up and down. I replaced it with a fixed spoiler so I no longer worry. Enjoy your car, spoilers be dammed

Has anyone been here long enough to remember OCBen and the guy with the hanger? Still gives me a laugh. Anyway, when you are passing a black car you (or better a passenger) could briefly glance at the reflection.

That is awesome - very resourceful!

So assuming no way to change auto deploy speed as there are more factors than MPH that determine when it goes up - yes? That would mean as well that if teetering at said speed that it would not go up/down, up/down, etc.

You cannot set the deployment speed. But it does have a built in hysteresis. This means once the up speed is hit you need to drop well below that speed for it to retract.

I thought there was a setting in Durametric Pro to disable the autodeploy at speed. This turns it into a manual deployment only. There's also a setting to have it deploy under hard acceleration regardless of speed. Don't remember the details as I played with this a few years ago. Right now I have a fixed wing with all controls disabled.

Join renntech.org and download a pdf of the owner's manual - contains a wealth of info including answers to most of your questions about spoiler deployment.

There is an option that can be enabled with the Durametric Pro that allows the spoiler to deploy earlier under heavier acceleration (around half throttle seems to do it). I have that enabled on my car and it deploys at around 37mph (I believe it is actually using 60 kilometers per hour). Similarly, the normal deployment speed is 120kph or roughly 75 mph. Since I switched out the original deck lid to a Turbo one I can see when the wing raises and lowers in the mirrors. I don't know a good way to tell with a spoiler other than the flag trick, catching your reflection in another car or building, or having a passenger crane their neck up to see (my son could see it if he tried when it was a spoiler).

The option on the Durametric Pro is named "Spoiler Function Depends on Acceleration". Despite its name it will still deploy under normal acceleration at 75mph (in other words enabling the acceleration feature doesn't disable the normal behavior unless you turn it off completely with another option).

This is the best answer here and the one I was going to give. To add... default setting is to deploy once 120kph (~75mph) is reached and retract once 60kph (~40mph) is reached. It will also deploy if the engine oil temperature is too hot but I have not been able to find the default temp for its deployment.

It is difficult to see if it is deployed but not impossible to see the top of the spoiler if you turn around, get your head as high as possible and look.

I employ a man servant. He dutifully tells me, from the chase vehicle, when the wing deploys and when it retracts. I suggest you ask Santa for one. Have you been naughty or nice?

This should help explain spoiler deployment/retraction based on speed and temperature:
