Thanks everyone for the answers both informative and entertaining. I think I'll choose the path of least resistance, since the dealership is about 25 miles away through DFW traffic, and I have some travel to do. I'll add enough of the cheap stuff that I have lying around to get that dashboard light to go out. Then, I will pray to the Porsche gods for forgiveness and buy some of the good stuff at the dealership next week when I get back from my trip. Keep my unicorn in your prayers that it may overlook this breach of protocol…T

OEM....OMG! There is a Porsche brand for washer fluid? I wonder how I was ever approved to purchase my 911.

Sit rep...Put in 2 cups of cheap stuff my MIL bought from Ace, before she realized it wasn't windshield that was foggy, but her eyesight. Then took it for a spin & gas up, so as to be ready for my first DE tomorrow. Dash light went out & did not reappear. Car still intact. I have sense of pride in performing my first ever DIY. Just hope I didn't void the warranty.
Thanks again, everyone, for the advice.

For years I used "the blue stuff" from Wallyworld in my cars. When the jets in my Merc got clogged beyond cleaning, my indie told me to stop using it and just used filtered water (it never freezes here). Never had a problem since. Been doing likewise in the P-car.

I had bad luck with the RainX stuff in my BMW about 3 years ago. Not only did it leave too much residue where it dried on the unwiped portion on the windshield and where it ran up onto the roof, but it also clogged my system within a few months. An examination revealed the filter was completely clogged with a gelatinous goo. Maybe the Texas heat made something go wrong with it, but I will certainly avoid it from now on.

I quit using the Rain-Ex concentrate and washer fluid for the reason noted above, the silicone or whatever is in it soon makes my wipers skip and chatter. I think wipers work best on clear windscreens, with some alcohol to avoid freezing in the winter. I have no knowledge of algae in the system. Works for me,

all the best....

2009 C2S 192K miles

RainX causes problems with the level sensor... I had to replace my sensor and it was all coated up and gummed up. No RainX for me ever again. I just use the cheapest crap I can find.

Peace

That Porsche concentrate looks like it's just relabeled Nextzett Kristall Klar concentrate. It's $11/bottle at Amazon and makes 13 gallons.

Amazon Amazon

If you don't need freeze protection this is cheaper long term than buying the big jugs at your local auto parts store.

I use the same stuff as I put in our Hyundai Sonata, and the 911 still works…

I think I messed up my car by putting HONDA windshield washer fluid in my car. My mom got extra at the dealer when she had her car serviced. I mixed it with distilled water, so I hope it is OK and my car will still run.
BTW, I did notice more of a VTEC intake noise.

Oh oh..... putting Honda fluid in a Prosche.... oh my.... well.... First, your Porsche will now become way more reliable, and you will have strange desires to improve the car's "stance" and put a fart-can on the exhaust. Only a matter of time.

Peace
