I was indifferent to the CL wheels before I got the GTS, but now, I see them as being an integral part of the GTS character. They definitely make the car feel a bit more special. As my car is a road car, I'm okay with the slight inconvenience they add to the ownership experience. I do need to get the breaker bar, etc.

And I just found out today that you also need to invest $430 on some kind of modules when the brakes are replaced on CL cars. This is just for the front brakes so I'm guessing double that for all four. Total is $2K for new front brakes.

Not so. Don't know what modules of which you speak, locating pins? At any rate, my local indie quotes me $2400 for all four (Girodisc), plus pads.

OEM, all parts required for all 4, is $2000, and easy DIY.

Yes it will see some trac time. I'm thinking of the 5 lug conversion though....funny how i'm already doing stuff to it and i have'nt even got it yet....

How long you suppose they last with no trac time?

tires, oil, gas, pads, = consumables at the track.
Plus i'd like a bar, harness's, and a wing just cause they look as proper on a 911 as a twinkie in the hands of a fatman...

Look over on the 997GT3/GT2 forum. There's a sticky about the recall associated with these. Somewhere in all that, it talks about maintenace if you track. Also, a sticky on checking the centerlocks.

Road use, indefinite.

Well....between buying the tools to get the wheels off and the time I don't have for the work I'll just have to eat this. I'll find out exactly what the mandatory parts replacement is about. Only applies to CL wheels I was told.

gosh, if i read it correctly, its pretty much a big-azz breaker bar and a good torque wrench (bout 400-450) I haven't seen anything on the brakes needing any thing special, but i'm new to working on these beasts (well technically, i haven't done that yet either lol

Got to be the locating pins, $133/wheel. Nonetheless, should not cost $2000 just for the fronts. My indie quotes $982 for fronts only, parts and labor.

If money is a concern, go with the GTS and don't worry about the extra money. While I would have loved a GTS, it was out of my price range, so I went with a C2S. I've contemplating trading in for a GTS in a few years, but have been able to do a few DIY mods to keep myself happy for the time being. For those who want the GTS look in the rear, just get a can of plasti dip and paint the rear bumper valence and badges black. I'll probably get some black wheels with a polished lip in the future or just get my SII wheels custom finished. Cheers!

Carrera S II wheels look great painted black, with a brushed/polished lip. Probably my favorite cast 997 wheels. Cheers.

I also love this look. Has anyone custom finished their wheels? I can get my wheels painted or powdercoated for sure, but I'm not sure if a shop can do the polished lip.

Correct about the locating pins. SA misquoted the price. Not $2K but $1,487 (itemized invoice attached). Called two other dealers in the area and they were all within $100 of each other. The only reputable local indie doesn't work for me for various reasons.
