Default Has anyone used a cup holder cell phone mount?

Will these actually fit and be stable on to the somewhat flimsy Porsche cup holder?

In California it's illegal to mount it on the windshield. Proclip mount is too low to be practical as it places the phone way too low relative to your normal field of vision.

This type of device would seems to get the phone up closer to your line of vision.

It's not as sleek as the Proclip but it seems more functional.

Get a Proclip dashboard mount.

My main concern about the cup holder solution would breaking the cup holder as well as rattles. Plus where would I put my drink?

I tried installing a proclip on our Odyssey and it was super difficult. They want you to wedge it into the spaces between the trim which can potentially damage the trim itself. They make two models for the 997 - one which mounts lower to the console and another which clips onto the area by the AC vent.

I was thinking the cup holder one would not involve damaging anything on the console or dash, and it wouldn't block the AC vent. It gets very hot here during the summers!

The cup mount looks flimsy to me, especially if you get in contact with it by mistake - then you will break the cup holder I have just installed the Proclip mount. The high one

I don't see any risk of damage. I have removed it as well as I am about to install the Tranzit Blu. It is rock solid and does not leave any marks. See thread with pictures and a video:

The advantage as I see it with the Proclip is that it leaves a space behind the clip so that you are able to adjust the vents. You can also place it right between the vents giving full air flow on both sides. And it is on s perfect striking distance

I see that you are aware that there are two versions of the ProClip for the 997s. Mine is the upper one that sits over the top left vent just a few inches beside and on the same plane as the steering wheel. I couldn't ask for a better position, its much more readily visible that the PCM itself. It also mounts easily with no undue stress on the console and removes with no trace (I moved this one from my earlier C4 to this car). It is ultra stable, plus I'm using the powered version with the wire tucked cleanly into the edges of the trim. This works great for the Escort Live app I always run which would otherwise drain the phone's power.

I would think the cup holder one is a poor and likely wobbly alternative and probably a good foot or so further out of your line of sight. I would recommend using the high-mount ProClip.

Considering how weak and wobbly the cup holders are, probably not a great location. They also like to break, I've replaced several over the years.

I did a lot of research into finding a phone mount solution. My criteria was that is had to be a suction cup mount and sturdy (I have a Nokia Lumia 1520 w/ a 6 inch screen). What I ended up buying was a mount from a company called RAM.

I usually mount the device on the driver side window near the front so as to not interfere with the mirror but far enough away from the steering wheel so as to not cause any interference.

Highly recommended.

I have this in my jeep and it works great. You turn the **** and the base expands to adjust to fit tightly into the cup holder. I think it will be too high if placed in the porsche cup holder.

I am using the Koomus CD mount for the i6 in my '12 GTS and it is excellent. Very stable, doesn't block anything useful, and doesn't mark the car in any way.

You said you didn't want the Pro Clip as it is too low... I have been using it for two years and like it. I understand your concerns, it is a bit low. Fine for me... if others are interested, my thread on Pro Clip here:

I went and grabbed a photo on my iPhone in the ProClip mount (the higher mounting version) along with the cupholder deployed. While the photo turned out rather crappy, it does show that the higher mounting version is in a pretty good position for access, much closer than the cup holder position (another 8 inches or so and a farther look away from the road). You can't even spot the power feed since it tucks easily into the trim behind it. Earlier I was incorrect saying that it was on the same plane as the steering wheel, it is a couple of inches further away, but it is perfectly at my fingertips (to mute my Passport via a tap on the Escort Live screen for example) and only about 3 inches to the right of the wheel. The only controls it visually occludes when sitting normally are the door locks and the hazard button.

Here is the video of my Proclip installation described above. I used a magnet to be able to use the phone both horizontally (Spotify) and vertically (Waze and Google maps) And to make it look clean and neat.

@ StormRune - the higher ProClip mount blocks the vent entirely. It's not that big of a deal in the winter but during our 110 F summers, I want all the cool air I can get!

@ Bruce In Philly - the lower ProClip is very low IMO, too low to be practical if I'm scanning WAZE while driving. Got to look out for those cops :-)

@SamDaMan - the Koomis CD mount looks interesting. Does it block the display?

I'd rather not have the phone on the left side. I would have to hardwire power over there. Plus if my wife is in the car she has no access to the phone.

The Kenu Air Frame looks like another vent mount except it looks like you can cheat it over so that it does not block the vent entirely, although my giant Note 4 may be so big that it blocks everything regardless. http://www.kenu.com/products/airframe-plus

I tried the Kenu but it is useless on the 997 since the vents are tilted towards you which means you don't see much of the phone display. Even worse if you want to use the phone in the wrong angle.

However the Kenu works perfect in my commuter car where the vents are tilted away from the driver.

It's not as complete as you'd think since it doesn't sit right against the vent... a lot of air still comes around the sides and you have the other vent to the right of that one and another to your left. I live in Central Texas with its frequent 100 to 110 days and never have trouble with the amount of air I'm getting. Of course, I do have the benefit of the ventilated seats, but even in the previous car without them I was fine.

I understand if you have your mind set against this approach, but I think the cupholder approach will prove even more undesirable (and it blocks the right vent for the passenger just as much or more).
