Default 2011 GTS Purchase

Looking for a little insight and guidance. I put a deposit on a 2011 GTS from a dealer in TX. Flying down there Monday to look it over and test drive it. This is a CPO 911, 1 owner and 20k miles. Other then the service records what should I be asking and looking for? Thanks for your help. Looking forward to my first Porsche!

Still running on original tires? New set of Michelin PSS will run you around $1150 - might want to factor that into your negotiations...

New tires about 1500 miles ago. Had 20K service at the dealer. Thanks.

CPO should take a lot of the guesswork out of evaluating this car. If Porsche has "certified" the car, it's been thoroughly vetted mechanically...but, if they missed anything significant, they're going to pay for it anyway.
Look for any wear-and-tear both outside and in. I always worry when a used car has an artificial odor on the inside (air freshener, etc.). Sometimes a "smoker's car" gets disguised by scents applied by the seller. If someone's been smoking in an Alcantara interior, the smoke smell will always come back.

Thanks. Its the standard leather interior with the carbon backed racing seat option.

What should I look or be concerned about if replaced/repaired during the CPO process?

I bought my CPO GTS sight unseen, PPI done by a Porsche dealership the private seller was getting his next car from which was also the dealer that did the CPO certification. Not an ideal situation but enough things added up where I was ok with it and it turned out good.

On the flip side, there's a horror story of a RL member who bought a CPO car described as "perfect", also sight unseen but without PPI from one of the largest volume Porsche dealerships in North America. Turned out the car had major issues that the dealer refused to address after the sale. Tragic story all around. Beverly Hills Porsche gave him the middle finger when he asked for restitution and so did PCNA. Has to be one of the longest threads in RL history: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...-poor-car.html

PPI is not the holy grail but if you're concerned, pay the $250 or $300 and get it done by a reputable third party. They may miss smaller issues but anything material should register.

Thanks for the input. How do I go about setting up the PPI? If I'm only there for a few hours between flights to inspect and drive the car how can I get it done? It will have 26 months of warranty after purchase.

I had a bad initial interaction with another dealer when I did a little research on a CPO GTS and it turns out it was some how flooded. The carfax showed some strange service so I follow up with the dealer that did it. The service manager said "stay away from that car"!

This process is making me paranoid!

I think that a PPI is always a good idea and this forum (or the 993 forum) will provide names of well respected 3rd party Porsche specialists to perform it for you. You do not be be there for a PPI to be performed. You need the selling dealer to agree to have the car sent to the 3rd party shop. If there no willingness to do so, then that is a red flag to me.

Regarding the incident involving Beverly Hills Porsche, the buyer did not put his eyes on it (nor did he ask for a Rennfax) and many of the issues were obvious such as cosmetics, wheel damage, paint issues, top issues. If you are closely looking at the car before you buy it, and checking all carfaxes/autocheck reports and have a CPO warranty, your risks are manageable even without a PPI. As always, you are buying the seller as well as the car. Maybe some folks here know the reputation of the dealership. Try your best to control your desire to buy it and use a clear head when looking at it.

And since I mentioned Rennfax, ask if someone on this board can stop by the dealership and check it out for you. It might save you a plane trip if it is a dog.

The car is at Park Place Porsche in Dallas TX. The car is a lease return and was originally purchased from Plano Porsche.

I already booked the flight so I'm going to be there on Monday the 24th. I'm going to call Plano Porsche today and see what the service department says.

Is it out of the ordinary for a car purchased from one dealer to end up at another dealer 20 miles away? I really appreciate the feed back. I have been surfing Rennlist for years waiting to join until I was ready to purchase my first 911.

I bought a 996 before from Minnesota, I am in Texas, the dealership dropped the car off at the Minneapolis Porsche Deealership and did the inspection, you could have the dealership do the PPI after you look at and make the sale contingent upon the PPI or before you get there

Your are going to see the car in person - that's good. If you really feel you need a PPI (it is CPO, correct?) then you might consider an independent such as RAC for the PPI.

Ask for Hans.

I've purchased 2 used 997's (2007 TT and 2012 GTS) from Park Place over the past 6 years and both cars were as advertised - in great condition. I did not get PPI done before purchase on either.

Do you need more advice? If the dealer that sold it didn't take it back there is probably a very good reason. They have first shot at it.

I talked to the service manager at Plano Porsche and he knew the car, as well as the owner and said that he was meticulous with the car and said it would be a great vehicle to buy!

Very excited to get the exact car I was looking for at a great price!
