Came home to find part of my neighbor's tree had landed on the car. Took out the RHS mirror and dented 3 body panels. The part that's truly annoying is that she has a bunch of dead and dying trees leaning towards my driveway, so this was only a matter of time. Hopefully now she'll finally take care of it. Crap. Did not need that. Hate living in the forest.

Thanks for listening. Time for a beer.
That sucks, how big of a tree are we talking here?
My week wasn't too good either - 4 inch nail embedded in my brand new Michelin PSS rear tire on the Texas/NM border 900 miles into a 3,000 mile road trip. By chance the place I chose to sleep also had a full service auto repair/tire shop. They plugged the hole and made it another 500 miles to Denver.
The branch or tree top that launched itself was about 15' long , maybe 4" in diameter. 6" to the left and it would have taken out the top. Hoping the body panels can be taken care of with paintless dent removal. I'm sure the insurance will chip in after I cough up my $1k deductible.
I know it's not the end of the world (or a blown engine), but damn, that just wasn't necessary.
Hell no! Her tree. Her home owners insurance pays 100%. Sorry for your misfortune.
Unfortunately that's no the way it works. Even though it was her tree, the incident happened on your property so it is your problem. I have experienced this first hand twice in GA. The only way you can get her to pay for it is if you can show willful neglect on her part and document that the tree has been dead for some time and that it was brought to her attention. If you can convince your insurer of this then they will fight that battle for you unless of course you each are insured by the same company--in that case you are hosed.

True. This also means that branches of her trees that extend beyond her property line and encroach upon yours can be cut off by you on your property. May be time to call in a tree trimmer!

That is pretty much the way it works in California, but each state is different. Had something similar happen to me (not my P-car) and filed a claim with my homeowner's insurance. They paid in full with no deductible and then went after his insurance company for reimbursement.
No hassle for me other than getting my van repaired. It was a kinda POS van so it came out better than when I started.
Here it's also your property, your problem. All the stuff that was actually in my "air space" I had trimmed a couple of years ago. The trees in question here are on the other side of the street, but when parts do fall, they wind up in my driveway. I'll check with my homeowners insurance to see if they'd cover it.
