Final Verdict... Engine getting replaced by Ray Catena now... they were able to give me a discount and didn't charge me for any of the diagnostic/engine out work that they had done (around $3,500)... Total cost to replace around $20k... It sucks shelling out the money but I look forward to driving the car for a long, long time.

Still sounds bad. Sorry to hear. Scares me from buying a 997 now. Just took a 997S cab in for PPI and found 5/6 cylinders with bad scoring. Would have thought that was your issue originally. The owner of the Porsche Indy shop said avoid the S..

My advice... Get a 993, I had one previously and it was an unbelievable car... No issues, more fun to drive.. A little less comfortable

Looch, sorry to hear PCNA did not provide some consideration. With you being a three time owner you'd think they'd do something. Good dealer did provide some consideration. Still shocking you're out of pocket $20,000. I hope you are at least getting a brand spanking new 3.8 with a new warranty to go along with it.

Did the dealer ever provide any further insight into what they believe caused the cracked piston?

Applaud your attitude through all this.

It takes to get a viral video to make pcna to honor engine repair. Honestly it is so crazy i cannot even say anything, how many cars exist where a potential engine failure is a major thing to lose sleep about? When/if my engine blows pcna will not get a single dime of my money, i will get it done at flat6 or similar shop nearby, CT and NY got some good engine builders.

Feel terrible for you but you're a better man than I would have been in your shoes. No way I could have forked over 20K to anyone even remotely connected to PCNA after that verdict. Engine replacement on your dime after 25K miles with perfect service history and no abuse? Really? Pretty hard to swallow but not totally unexpected given how they operate.

I know someone on after their 3rd engine called it quits. Sold the car and is looking for a Turbo. Really sucks hearing about this but I also did some research and it's just not Porsche having these same problems. I am starting to believe ethonol may to be blame.

Scary stuff. I'm leaning toward a 996 Turbo. Can't afford 997 Turbo range yet.

Why did he tell you to avoid an S?

Said they run too hot in 5-6 cylinders. Something about compression ratio that flew over my head. Then said, I'd have less headaches in a non-S and wouldn't suffer a huge performance gap.

All the engines were from reman'd engines from Porsche. The car was a DD and tracked a lot during the summer.
