997 Prices Going up?

This is a great example of a pervasive problem with the internet: Anyone with a keyboard can write a poorly written "news" article, with spelling and grammatical mistakes galore! Exhibit A: "Porsche 997 used car pricing is going up or staying even. They are less 997s on the market and the ones that are there, are either holding their prices or even seem higher then from last year." [emphasis mine] Sheesh.
This article is just some guy with an anecdote about how he thinks 997 prices are staying still or going up.
It's hardly news (as its category states), nor is it any better than any of the information we see here in this forum... It's just one more opinion. It's also 6 months old.

Ha! No kidding. Probably researched at the University of Helsinki.
In all seriousness, I can attest that my car that I paid $62k for was almost the exact same price a year earlier, for similar miles and cpo. So there is some leveling for nicer examples. The cars that HAVE shot up are the 996 GT3, those are all at least $10k higher than 18 months ago and far fewer to choose from. 997 GT3 also seem to be holding pretty well. Then again, these are "asking prices".

They are depreciating but after the 2009 crash that was one slow depreciation. In 2009 you could buy a very low miles loaded 997S in brand new condition for 49,000 - 52,000. 4 years later they were going for virtually the same price. It wasn't until early 2013 the price started to drop again.

I feel 997 prices are dropping like a stone at the moment...you can easily pick up a lovely 05-07 Carrera high 30's low 40's.
Condition dependent of course...do a PPI!

Looking at used 996 GT3 & 997 (all ranges) prices for the last few years. Here is my observations.
+ GT3s have more of less stayed the same price, I recall 2-3 years ago nice clean 997.1 GT3s were in the low to mid 70s USD, that is still the case. 996 GT3 are asking more money then they used too before the 991 GT3 was announced.
+ Older 997.1s are probably dropping since they are completely out of warranty or extended warranty, so they are more of a risky purchase. Any car over 7 years old would be in that boat.
+ Because of the economic crash in 08/09, some sweet deals could of been had from what people tell me, also new 09 911s sold with huge discounts. Generally there is a noticeable price gap between `09 and `10 models. So looked at used cars a year or 2 ago... So if you were looking at cars in `09 to `12 prices would reflect the poor economy
+ Porsche is a luxury good, so now more people are willing to buy them since the economy is stabilizing which just puts prices to a realistic level
+ 991 came with a large price increase, so perhaps people are opting for a late loaded 997.2s ie, GTS than a base 991 Carrera
+ I did notice 997 Turbo price deflate a bit when the 991 Turbo was announced, perhaps different type of buyer who wants the latest / greatest. Same as 996 Turbo has always been know to be such a "great deal" due to the HUGE depreciation on such a capable car.
