Man I really loved your green C2S and the All Red tail lights and body colored rear badge really made it that much more special . . .

Anyways, cool new car and I am glad you're happy with it! The drive alone must have been worth it.

What is truly interesting to me is that you went from a 997.2 4S to a 997.1 2S to a 997.1 4S... I must ask, which car drives the best in your opinion and WHY?!

Congrats

John

After flying to Seattle to buy the car, my wife and I decided to do something a bit crazy (not surprising at this point in the tale, right?). We decided to drive it down the Pacific Coast Highway to LA and then all the way back across the country to the Carolinas. I'll post our travelogue with lots of photos, much like what David did on this forum for his cross-country trip in October, if anyone is interested. Thanks for reading.
Great story. I think many or at least some here can relate although you may have taken the sickness to a new level. Your wife is a saint btw. I thought mine was too but I'm pretty sure her support would have tapered off somewhere in the first benz lease/murano purchase territory and there's no question I would have traveled to Seattle on my own to pick up the Targa.

Really looking forward to the reporting of your drive back. Sounds like you're happy with the nordic Targa but given what you've shared so far I wouldn't bet much on that being the car you finish the trip in. A lot of dealerships with cars for sale along a 3,000 mile drive

Great story. I constantly scour the Rennlist Ad section for P-cars so I understand how this can happen. But I don't pull the trigger as quickly as you do. lol

This is nothing! I have a buddy who buys and sells Porsches every 6 months. He has a beautiful black 997 Turbo (with PCCBs) and a black 997 GTS (with PCCBs) as well as a Cayenne--and ordered a Macan for an April delivery. He has gone through about 40 cars in the several years I have known him. You have a ways to go to catch up! (Rumor has it he has his own private window at the local DMV office). Sorry to hear about the Murano Green--I always liked that color.

I can't believe you let the murano go ! never seen another, I remember seeing it for sale just before you bought, thinking, wow, THAT is a keeper...but then there wouldn't be a targa on a great road trip, happy trails!

I did love that Murano!! She was real beauty.

My wife, like Sandwedge, although a saint would have been at WTF much sooner. Look at the upside....maybe a reality TV show is around the corner!

Best of Luck with the new car if she's still yours today.

I Just went back and read the thread again and it is quite a story! I'm already looking forward to when the Benz lease is up and you're in the market for another car (s)? I bet that's a fun one too.

I do look forward to your cross country adventure....keep an eye out for PTS 911s....I think we have a 50/50 chance of a Chapter 7.

All the Best.

+1 on your wife being a saint...I believe that I would have been in the doghouse after forgetting to mention the 997.2 4S purchase!

Enjoy your current ride and I hope (EXPECT!!!) that you enjoy it while you own it!!!

Looking forward to the road trip report...

Great story. Looking forward to the road story. Your Targa was a feature story in Panorama magazine the year the Targa 4S was launched. The shoot was in the Caribbean, maybe St Maarten. I had a Targa back then and I remember thinking that the color was great.

Great question! I would love to hear your opinion of those three.

Once you get the fever it is hard to cool down. Combine that with my tendencies toward impulse, and here you go. Porsche madness. Anyway, in a way I've traded down over the last two years. That's partly a function of needing to justify this to my wife and to myself. While none of this makes financial sense, I've had to rationalize it by saying that I'm buying a less expensive 911 to compensate for the $$$ I threw away on these car transactions. Perk10, asked me which of the three I preferred. Well, I also spent some time in a 996 C4S, so I have a lot of direct comparisons to make. But, I'm not a trained driver and took none of the cars to the track. The fastest, most refined car was the 997.2 C4S, without question, but it did not inspire my devotion for reasons I'm not sure of. My favorite would have to be the Murano Green C2S. Besides the unique build (the interior was beautiful as well: full leather, aluminum package, contrast stitching, ouch it hurts to remember it), it felt lighter on its feet, more agile. We'll see how things go with the Nordic Gold Targa 4S. My initial driving impressions are quite good. My wife even commented on how good the clutch and transmission feel. It's easier to drive in some ways than the C2S was, but some of that may be the clutch adjustment. Sandwedge, I managed to avoid trading the Targa on the way home, but I was tempted a couple times to stop at P car dealers in Phoenix and Dallas! I'll start the travelogue of our trip tonight. Thanks everyone for listening to my true confessions.
