Ha! Thanks for the great insight. My favorite is the "Larry and Moe" remark, but the "fish tank" was good too. My mechanic warned me about the airbag light (thank you drum set avitar), but he thought it was pretty easy to pull the seat. I'll try to send photo's for more laughs once prototype is complete. I want to drive my 997 to cabin 5 hours away (great driving roads) and bring a dog, thats what started it all. My high drive dog will kill the interior without being contained comfortably.

I do take mine in my car when I have to get him to the vet and my wife is using the SUV. What I do is lay down the front seat as far back as I can and with a combination of blankets and bungee cords I make a little nest for him.
Most of the time he's fine but sometimes he will want to stand and it gets a bit dicey there. Plus he'll shoot snot rockets on to my windshield and fog up my windows with his heavy breathing.
So although I do it occasionally it is SO much easier to put a dog in an SUV. And mine is only 65 pounds so imagine how much a bigger GSD would be.

Getting a bad flu hasn't helped with the custom dog crate project. Walls/floor/sliding door are vacuum bagged autoclave cured low mod foam cored Bi-ax carbon. Frame is carbon tube/L beam. Lining is going to be light grey .125" self adhered hydroturf. Small water bowl with outside fill tube moulded into left side wall. CADCAM routed "Porsche" script 3" high and .5" wide lettering bit cut through front and back walls and .625 wide series of routed slits both sides for air and visibility (biggest issue through crate to the right). 8LBS without lining or feet, no rattle, quick pin takedown. Won't be done for a while.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work...any chance that you are in Marin??? This would definitely qualify as "only in Marin"...

I can certainly appreciate the desire to carry your best friend in your 911. I unfortunately don't have my golden anymore, but if I did, I'd have no hesitation at all in using my 911. My golden was very calm though, and it sounds like your GSD is more "energetic". How about on top of the folded back seats? If the space too small?

I missed this post originally, but I did hear about it in another post. Funny stuff. Why not just put in a durable seat cover? How much fun would a dog have in a crate while cruising on the dragon anyway?
