Default Porsche wants to buy my car

But I'm not selling!

Dealer called me out of the blue, asking if I'm interested in selling them my car. Said they're low on pre-owned models and my car is in high demand. No sale, I'm still in love with my car and have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

Porsche has sent me flyers in the past, trying to get me interested in the 997.2 when it came out. Several flyers sent trying to get me to trade in to the 991. But never had a dealer call me directly asking if I wanted to sell my car to them before.

Wonder if it's just a local thing. Have others received similar calls?

No but I did get a weird email from my dealer recently eluding to the same thing.

What did they offer if I may ask?

It's a common tactic to get you to come in and look at new cars.

I suspect that they may actually be more interested in you buying a new p-car, than they are in buying yours, although wrapping the whole deal into one results in both. Offering to buy yours sounds so much better than just trying to sell a new car.

Low on pre-owned models... right...

Well I will tell you straight up since I was in the car business for years. It is nothing more than a cold call campaign to try to generate interest to get people into the dealership. They have no idea about your car and probably are calling you blind, not even knowing what the hell it is you drive other than the fact that there is a Porsche logo on the front.

Next time you get a call like that, ask the dealership why they need more used cars to sell, because if business were so good as they are alluding to, then they would have TONS of trade-ins

I get the same calls and letters for my POS Hyundai from the Hyundai dealership. As said above, it's to upsell you.

They all send such stuff. And then offer ridicolous 'evaluations', like a $18k for my car. Yeah, sure.

All car dealerships do that. I get that call or letter twice a year from my mini dealership.
A few years ago when the gas prices first hit near $5/gallon my VW dealership called me and said that my Touareg V8 was in high demand, I responded with " lets see if I have this right. A SUV with a V8 that barley gets 18mpg that reguires premium fuel is in high demand when gas prices are near $5/gallon.....sure they are". I left the lady on the phone speechless...lol

The fact is all dealership including Porsche have plenty of 2013 inventory that they need to move. You can get great deals now if you are looking for a new car but be careful and don't fall for there tricks. You might get raped on trade-in values!

I got a very similar call from Porsche of Hawaii this week. I told them the same thing. It's a pure marketing ploy to move cars. You know they would give you a low ball number on your car.

Oddly, my Cayenne does not get these letters.

Sigh.

I am sure that upgrading to a similarly equiped 991S from my 2009 997S at 23K miles would cost as much or more than the new original new sale price of my 997. I'll pass on this one.

I got a similar mailer last week saying the local Porsche dealer is interested in buying my 997. I think as we are now in the mid-autumn season, this is nothing more than an aggressive marketing tactic in disguise. The winter months are slower for Porsche.

Must be the latest fad. I got a call from the Lexus dealer saying they wanted my LX 570.
