Default 997.1 is a reliable car! 6yr report at the end of CPO!

I've had my car (2007 C4S) since 2009, CPO warranty until end of Aug. 2013 (so the car would be exactly 6yrs old), and car is sitting at 37K kilometers (23K miles), mostly street driving with 3-4 track days a year.

In this timeframe, here is all I had to do:

- Tires: 1 set of rears, 1 full set
- Brake Pads: 1 full set of OEM, 1 full set of Track/Street pads (Ferodo 2500)
- Brake fluid: Once a year Motul RBF600 full flush
- Oil service: Twice a year, usually Motul 5W40
- Filters: One set of Cabin, air filter, pollen
- Transmission oil: One full flush
- Other: Adjusting of gear shifter cable (to help with downshift 3-2)

Oil consumption:
- 0.5 litre in-between oil changes (basically none)

CPO Covered:
- 5 TPMS
- Front left tie-rod

Maintenance to do:
- Spark Plugs

Mods:
- GT3 brake ducts front/back
- Painted Center Console
- Set of winter wheels/tires
- GT2 bucket seats (only for summer)
- mObridge iPod/BT

I think overall, I could not be happier with reliability of this car. I guess being one of the later cars in this gen. has helped get the kinks out. It is simply amazing when I compare it with my old Audi/VW experience, or to my sister's BMW and Mini cars which were nothing but unreliable.

Kudos to Porsche! I hope VW ownership doesn't change their reliability rating (Cayenne being a different story).

How's others here have fared?

I am just hitting 78K miles and this past year I had to do the air/oil separators and change a front radiator out for a leak, but overall solid. I did not have really bad luck with my BMWs but after 25 years of owning many, I was pretty good at tackling all my own maintenance/repairs (exception being a 4.4 X5, which became a nightmare late in life). Overall, love the Porsche.

although many people had good luck with bimmers, i think the 6 cylinders were more reliable. we had a 2002 540i and it was great when new, but the front suspension often needed repairs as well as many electric gremlins(esp as it neared 85-100k miles). also, we owned 2000 X5 4.4i and granted it was first year, but it was equally problematic and required new engine at 25k miles.
overall, i found the MBs and Porsches to me much more reliable than the bimmers(except V12 MBs).

That is good to hear from a 997.1 owner that no serious issues have occurred.

Am hoping for several years of service from my 997.1 as well.

Approaching 79,000 miles on my 2006 S with hardly anything worth mentioning. Original plugs and coils still purring along. Premature water pump failure a long time ago (under warranty) and ditto for premature serpentine failure).

Engine wise, fairly bulletproof so far. Knocking on Makassar...

Here's a shot from yesterday and then this morning. It still looks okay.

Sweet Edgy still love the pccb's, is it true that they don't produce brake dust?

Funny that you ask that today. This morning during a brief cars and coffee event in Montecito I was talking to a friend who recently ordered a new 991 Cabriolet. She elected to go with a straight 991 and not the S, but loaded it up. I told her that her one mistake was not adding the PCCBs. Life it too short to be washing wheels. I'm still on my original disc pads and of course, rotors. The wear is so minimal that you subsequently have little dust. I can literally go weeks without wiping off my wheels (painted GT Silver). The standard iron rotors produce so much dust that Porsche worked hard finding a vendor who would solve that problem. My next Porsche (to supplement this one) will most likely be some form of Panamera with PCCBs. It's hard to go back. I'm guessing that I can get 250,000 miles out of the discs.

2006 CS oct. delivery. Bunch of track days, GT3 control arms, brake ducts f/r, 996 gt3 race seat, DD, 55k miles, just finished up a extended warranty and only a small crack in the coolant holder that was replaced by the extended warranty. Don't want to jinx myself but man....... this thing has been bullet proof.

Much like everyone else, I have replaced my water pump and serpentine belt. Replaced the idler pulley that was seemingly loose at the same time. This was done at 42k and at 43.5k the car is running GREAT. (2006 C2S X51)

And as far as what Edgy said - PCCB's are the truth in street driving. My previous car had a custom set of Gloss Black HRE's and I would have to clean them almost every other day if I didn't want them to look grey and matte. Now, I literally DON'T clean my wheels. When it's time for a wash/wax, I clean them with the rest of the car but that is ALL. My rotors are at 100% from what I can tell and the pads are as thick as ever. Four thumbs up! I, too, will never be able to go back.
