Found a local detailer based on a recommendation from a fellow Porsche enthusiast. But $600 to "rejuvenate" it? How many of you spend this kind of money to have your cars detailed? Just curious.
I haven't spent that much but bought a zaino kit for $130 and have used it to great effect. There is something satisfying about cleaning the car them waxing it and protecting the paint and standing back and saying wow that looks great. Sure enough it's not a pro job but drive it a few times and it will be dirty again. 600 once a year or a couple of years would be ok.
Since we are discussing detailing, could someone pl. comment if detailing can actually be harmful to the car ?. (I know nothing about the subject). I read in the porsche booklet that Porsche polish should be used sparingly...somehow implying to me that excessive use may wear out the paint ?.
What about waxing ?..I suppose that's good for the car. How often ?.
Furthermore the Porsche manual says that the underside has been coated with a protectant, have you ever asked Porsche to repaint it ?..
Paint is only so thick so when someone does a machine polish detailing, you want a knowledgeable person at the wheel. The orbitals are relatively safe.
$600 is steep unless your car needs lots of paint correction.
Well if you read what "Phase 1 - Clarification," you're basically paying $125 for a $10 hand wash. A coat of wax, interior wipe down, interior vacuum, and tire shine all take about 30 minutes and usually comes free at your standard car wash. This place is way overcharging, and even for $600 it looks like they barely get into the compounding process.
I'm in socal, so if you're looking for a detail done by fellow enthusiast, send me PM.
For that money I'd buy a griots garage orbital starter kit with the clay. It is easy and their downloadable guide can teach you how to use it to get out light swirl marks and such. Plus, it has a lifetime warranty. No affiliation but I enjoy using mine.
Dang...that is OUTRAGEOUS! I pay only $100 more for a huge 38' boat that 4-5 guys take all day to detail.
Here is what I do...wash my car at night and the next morning get up clay it, polish it, wax it...rest in the afternoon eat dinner and finish up the inside that night.
Here in Northern Cali a 'good' detailing just like Gruson mentioned that will get rid of 90-95% of blemishes on a car will be in the price range or more! I got quoted $1200-1500 for a 2 step on my G wagen!!!! I passed of course.

That price is in line for high quality work using something like Cquartz or Cquartz FINEST. The real work is in getting the paint corrected before the application.
