Is this special edition sorta like the Club Coupe: standard 991 'street' engine with a few heavily over-priced powerkit upgrades? Seems like special edition Carreras are very profitable builds.

Whether you track or not, GT3 hold value better than any water-cooled, engine-in-the-rear Porsche.
At the end of the day the value of a Porsche basically comes from its engine...
and not the absurdly priced 'accessories'. A 'special edition' Porsche that doesn't come with a limited production engine seem contradictory.

p.s.
Are you talking about the 991 GT3? Few have driven that car. But by the looks of the Chris Harris review, and the PDK only optioning, improved e-steering, wider front end, rear wheel steering, it seems to be a very forgiving car even if you never take it out for some cone-dodging or DEs. And way way way more exciting to drive. Your dollars are actually translating into a driving experience few can duplicate in a two pedal car.

If you're not going to be track driving, the 50th is the way to go...

The 991 50th anniv edition has a 430 hp engine as opposed to the 400 hp carrera S engine and wider body (as in the 4S) but retaining the rear wheel drive architecture. I read that the 991 GT3 will be somewhat more forgiving but how much more......not sure. Will either consider the Anniv edition in Monochrome Black or the GT3 in Sapphire blue. I'm not crazy about the boy racer rear spoiler in the GT3. JMHO.

I think this 991 50th anniversary edition will hold it's value better compared to say the 40th anniv edition. There are elements that pay homage to all previous generation of 911 in this 50th anniv. edition. The elements (houndstooth seats, chrome on the front and back, wider body in a C2, green dials, classic leather and stitching, personalization, etc) appear to have been applied thoughtfully in building this tribute to the 911's.

what is the price difference between the two? if tracking two days a year then I would choose the 50th for its shear ability to soak up miles on cruise. then hit sport plus. open the sport exhaust and its a totally different beast! i drove a c2s on sunday and those buttons make a big differnece.

The ultimate is a 991 50th for daily and a stripped out 997 gt3 rs race prepped for the track.

Remember the 50th does have the x51 upgrade (430hp) and the wider body (from c4s) and fuch wheels. Also the interior can be had in black leather instead of the cloth.

The limited run of 1963 might seem a bit pithy but might be worth more than you think in a wee while.

interested to see how the light grey looks in person. it has a small amount of metallic green in it by the looks.

Price difference is around 10K with the GT3 being more expensive. I can only afford one or the other.

Someone had mentioned that it looks more like a creme or eggshell color than a true light grey. It looks off white on the internet pics. Not sure if the wheels will clash with the geyser grey (lighter color).

One may cost $10K more but you get significantly more value for the money spent. As far as engineering, the 991 GT3 is a far more sophisticated car with a level of durability that is on another level to the 991 street car. Maybe a few levels...
Put it this way, the things that make the special edition car expensive are amenities that are fairly easy for Porsche to mark up well into the six figures. Like the Club Coupe, spec'ing a 991 S with similar upgrades still leaves you well short of the lofty premium Porsche is asking for.
OTOH, the things that make the 991 GT3 expensive are actually things that are supposed to be expensive in the sports car market and would be wildly expensive as upgrades to the 991 street car.

I was just offered a choice to order a 911-50 or a GT3. I chose the 911-50. I have always wanted a GT3. After talking to my dealer he told me there were only going to be 230 GT3's sent to the US. Only half of the dealers are even going to see one. I did the math if they run the production for 7 years its 1610 cars that will come to the US. Pretty rare. I think the ride will be pretty rough. I had a 2013 997.2 GTS and the ride on that was rough as well. It was a beautiful car though. I traded it for a 2014 R8 V10 S-tronic. That car is just crazy. Problem is I really miss my GTS but need a daily driver and I think the 991-50 will be that car it's only down 45 bhp on the GT3 and more civilized. I plan on tracking the R8...

Just came across this thread.
@OP - are you getting it in manual or PDK, as this will be the key question. If manual, you have no choice. If PDK, then GT3 all the way.
I don't expect the 991-50 to hold good value as there will be abundant of them.
There is only 50 club coupe and I can tell you that mine has depreciated like any C2S with X51. Will need to hold it for 30+years to see any appreciation in value.
@rsdarcan,
First of all, don't believe in everything that your dealer told you. If GT3 becomes a good seller, you can bet any money that Porsche will make more.
Also, your math is wrong. GT3 production only runs for 2 years or so, then facelift will happen. And 1610 cars are not rare at all.

The graphite grey without a doubt. I saw both in Stuttgart while there in early June. They had the graphite grey on the Museum floor the day before they has a big party for the 911 50th anniversary. It was beutiful and had hints of Grey and blue in it. It will appear to be two different colors. It also blended everything together much better IMHO.
The next day I was scheduled for a factory tour and they had put Geyser grey outside the Museum door. Sorry I dont have PICS of the Graphite but I was distracted at the time with some other pressing issues. I couldn't get great pictures of the Geyser and I was using my camera phone as they wouldn't allow cameras for the factory tour. There were lights that prevented me from getting any good shots of this car.

If it were me I would get the GT3. Now that I have seen this 50th car in person, I personally prefer the GT3 as it will be tons more fun.

Get a new C4S in any color you want, let others pay for the 911-50 exclusivity. You can drive it anywhere, track it 1-2 year and not suffer at all as a daily driver. Just saying

I'm kinda surprised at all the 911-50 votes, but I feel like the 991-gt3 (when it's released) will be the absolute BEST sports car that you can purchase NEW for under $150k USD (you might have to pay $149,999.99, but still).
