another successful trip to my mom's and back.
LA to the foothills of Tahoe.
The 5 and 99 are RUINED. It is like a safari in parts. there was a whole 10 mile section of the 5 that is a 2 lane gravel road currently. The 99 was closed somewhere between Stockton and the 50 as well, so check your routes!!
A lot of places are still not letting people in to use the bathrooms and eat.
If you are headed from SoCal to NorCal or vice versa this summer, plan accordingly. The roads are terrible and there is A LOT of stuff closed still.
I was trying to teach my mom how to use her iPhone camera. I got her to shoot horizontal later, so she is basically a professional now. If you need a photographer for weddings or funerals, I can get you in contact with her.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm about to go back to LA to drive my 997 back up to SF. Guess I'll consider taking the 101 instead of the 5. Where abouts is the gravel section on the 5?

I would check beforehand at the very least. When I went up the 99 was just closed. Also, when I was going back the 99 was closed. As a result, I just figured to take the 5 but lots of that was cut to 1 lane and gravel with all those Semi-Trucks.
You probably already know but with a little planning the 1 and 395 are both amazing but take longer. With the 395, I have done it in 2 days but I have taken up to 2 weeks to do it because of all the national parks and etc. I have done the same with the 1. I did it in one day and kind of regretted not stretching it out but I have also taken a week to do it and it was a great road trip.

(edit: I think the gravel part was somewhere around Los Banos but I drove from 8pm to 2am)...OH, THAT REMINDS ME!! CHP was sitting under bridges in some areas after midnight. I have never seen that before!!)
