Bit the bullet and got a 997.2. Took a long time as vast, vast majority of cars are silver/grey/black and I wanted blue or white (wife has a red car and yellow is a 20K premium). Won't lie, a small front end collision brought this into my price range. I had the opportunity to see the original photos, look at the frame, get a copy of the invoices and speak to the shop who did the work so I was prepared to move forward if the price was right.
The clincher for me was the miles, just 40,000 (63,000km) which is far, far less than I was expecting to have to tolerate. I then got the car on a hoist and it became clear it was never or rarely winter driven, at about 5,000km a year it was surely winter stored given not a bolt nor bracket shows any sign of rust. Vehicle was also inspected by Porsche, needs a few small things but otherwise a clean bill of health. They did me half price on a bore scope, so why not? Cylinder walls are pristine.
Sadly the blue cars almost all come with grey not black interiors, so have to live with that but the interior is in amazing shape, even the driver bolster is not worn which is HIGHLY unusual. Button text for example, show zero wear. Steering wheel was quite ugly on these but this vehicle had it upgraded to a newer wheel which is MUCH nicer, it also has Sport+ that turns the car into a proper animal. These two items would cost about $3,500 to install and were changes I was planning to make so I accounted for this in the true net cost.
This is a REAL TOUGH market, I did about all I could outside of spending over 6 figures (CAD) for a pristine example.
I may decide to throw gunmetal grey or black wheels under it as they really toughen the car up.
congrats, looks really nice and sounds like you lucked-out on price/mileage/condition - convertibles do tend to be winter stored, more often than coupes, at least up here in the North.
I looked at several (997.2 and 991.1) Canadian cars, but struggled to find one without bore scoring - found a convertible in Toronto in the end.
New guy here, first Porsche. I recently picked up an '06 C2 Cab with 6-speed and PSE. Thanks to you kind folks here on RL, I've got a project list a mile long already! Thanks for all the great info so far. I'll get more pics once it stops raining.
Bought my 2010 C2-PDK a year ago. Been taking it back to stock, except replaced the Carrera S II wheels which had been painted black with silver Carrera V from a 991 with 7mm spacer on rears.

Thanks. .1's have been rising in price sharply the past year, faster than .2's anyway.

Found a one owner 19K mile 09 Manual C4S back in November. Been waiting 18 years to get back into a 997, ordered my first one back in Nov-2004. Always liked the Terracotta interior. However I thought we could improve upon the factory options and so “the project” began. Haven’t even driven it yet beyond original test back in Nov-2021. Shipped it directly to Champion Motorsport as they did all the work on my original 997.1. Once they were done with it, shipped to California(Exclusive Option)for the entire custom interior to be done in a reimagined sudo-OEM fashion. Pretty much every square inch of the interior has been redone, either deviated Terracotta stitching or Meteor Gray stitching. Once the interior is put back together it will be shipped to Miami for new wheels, rubber, springs, calipers and few other items to pull it all together. The 997 for me is my favorite platform, and I do “drive” my cars. Put 15K miles on my 18 Manual PTS(1 of 1) GT3, and my wife is doing the same with her GT4. They were made to be driven.😀😀😀

more pics to come as the 997 project progresses.
Very cool. From your username, was your first 997 also a Champion F77 kitted car?
Yes, sold to a current RL member back in 2015 and he still has it. He made a few changes to it since getting it…..it was in spectacular shape 10 yrs on, this is a pic of it as it before it was loaded onto trailer……cheers…..
pls keep us updated with the full progress of this wonderful project.
