Nice car gripster. I'd swap front ends with you in a heart beat. Reckon you like the nice updated look though.

As other have already stated, you need to drive both and see which is more appealing to you. For myself, I started with Boxster S in 2000 in realized that I really like the additional features that S model provided. When it came time for the 911, I knew that I would want the S. My original plan was to get the 997.1S but then got swayed in the process with the updated electronics, engine, headlights and went with the 997.2S.

I ended up spending more money than I planned but do not regret my purchase. Buy the model that excites you and I don't believe you will be disappointed with either model.

Well, the 997.1 looks perfect to me too and I wanted an S. I just couldn't bring myself to buy anything older than a 2009 because of, well, fear. And the 997.2S was more than I wanted to spend right now, by about $10-15k.

I'm really happy though - like I said above, I haven't driven a 997.1S, but on paper there's not much in it, especially since this is my first Porsche.

I'm curious about the sale of your 993. Where are you located and how did you go about selling it? I went from a 07' 997.1 to a 09' 997.2. Really prefer the .2 but it is a personal decison. Both great cars.

Excellent choice man! That was my first Porsche car too. A base 997.2. What an amazing daily driver and performance car! Enjoy it!

Good choice. You'll be happy for sure. Nobody say's you can't trade that lovely in in a few years and get something different....right. Great car whether it's a C2 or a GT3. You now have a 911 so enjoy!!!

I drove a few different models, a highly optioned Targa 4S, and several base cars, but when I got into the 09 ,997.2 base car it really changed my outlook. Coming from testing the really great Tiptronic to PDK was the biggest difference for me, and made me buy one on the spot. Even though for the roughly the same amount you can get a very well optioned S, the behavior of those two cars is pretty different. The 05-08 car felt faster to me, but having that duel personality in the PDK is what sealed it, its the best gearbox I have ever experienced, although it's a bit boggy at low speeds.

Don't be fooled by that DFI engine though, it rips through fuel, no matter what anyone here says, I am constantly going to the pumps.

Great choice! 997.2 is my vote. Love my 997.2S with PASM. Test drove a few 997.1s. Had a 987s prior. I find the steering much better on the .2 vs the .1. Better steering feedback and tracks fantastic. I also enjoy the sound of my .2 over the .1 or my 987s. Can't beat the DFI motor. Enjoy your new ride!

I own a 997.2 C2. My neighbor owns a 997.1 C2S (both cars manual) and I've had a fair amount of seat time in both so my perspective:

1. If leaving both cars bone stock then I would go with the 997.1 C2S. The PASM is nice and overall I like the look of the car better than the stock ride height and narrower wheels of the stock 997.2. Also, the PASM equipped 997.1 handles better at the track. If the 997.2 has PASM then probably has the upgraded wheel and tire package and I would go with the 997.2.

2. If you are someone who is going to do suspension and wheel mods anyway then I would go for the updated front fascia and DFI motor of the base 997.2. I have aftermarket rims that fill the wheel well on my 997.2 nicely and lowered with Bilstein pss-9 coilovers. With lowered suspension and bigger wheels/tires the base 997.2 runs identical lap times to the 997.1 C2S at the track.

3. I don't feel there was enough of a change regarding interior to make a difference either way. If blue tooth phone connection and slightly updated PCM are important to you then the newer 997.2 is better. Personally I don't use Nav in my car and rarely listen to the radio.

In the end, can't go wrong either way. Both great cars.
