It's really a matter of one's taste. If my car came with the wood, I probably could live with it. But if you hate it, it's easy enough to change, just a matter of how much you want to spend. But once you start, it's easy to get addicted to upgrading other parts of the interior.

The Porsche OEM silver trim is probably the cheapest way to go. I bet you can find many used silver trim parts on eBay for cheap. As silver is the base trim, folks usually upgrade to carbon, leather, wood or custom painted trims (e.g. via BumperPlugs etc.)

I personally like the look of carbon fiber trim on sports cars. My wife said my cocoa leather color is for "old people". While I disagree with her, I added some carbon fiber give a more sporty look and feel. Here's a pic of my car:

Is there a difference between gray and silver trim?

Yes.

The gray is called "volcano gray" and is used on the surface of the PCM/AC center stack, seat backs (on some cars) and the ring around the airbag on 997.1 sport steering wheels. It has a more matte like finish and is darker.

The silver is used on the vents, door handle pull and dash trim. It has a more glossy finish, but some feel it looks too plastic like.

Thanks for your help. Sorry to be so dense, I'm still a bit confused. Do you think I have silver on my vents/door handle/dash trim already?

Yes, your vents, door handle pulls and shift trim surround are all the silver trim.

Default Silver Interior Pieces

I am pulling a bunch of the silver interior trim out of my wife's 997.1 C2S - she actually wants it replaced with dark Macassar wood. I have
  • full center tunnel including ash tray and rear extension box
  • long vertical door handles
  • door compartment covers
  • little piece in front of the door compartment covers
  • cup holder assembly
  • upper door spears (part in door that holds the window switches and is behind the interior door handle)

all of these pieces will be out of the car by the end of next week. We already have the e-brake handle, gearshift ****, full center console, & ashtray assembly but if anyone has the a rear macassar extension piece for the center tunnel or door trim pieces they want to get rid of, I need to source those ASAP.

Firedancer414, I might be interested in swapping our cup-holder assemblies and let me know if you want any of my silver pieces.

Those are nice and look very good with the silver center tunnel. You would reuse your little blue piece that's just under the handbrake, as the one I have is black since my interior is black.

Wood trims just emphasize the transition of the Carrera from a small sports coupe into larger GT that's more like a Jaguar/Aston than Steve McQueen.

Just recall that wood was certainly in the original Porsche 911 back in 1963-64. If you move to 'carbon-fiber' understand that it is fake stuff and will deteriorate quicker than the wood.

After all this discussion, I've decide that I'm going to stick with the current interior. My wish list is just to get 1) multifunction steering wheel, 2) universal media interface, and 3) PSE.

thanks all =)

Your choices are sound. The Muultifunction wheel is great, and some wood is not going to make you appear to be some old geezer. The PSE is a MUST have item.

PS - Hi Rennlist! =)

Picked her up about a month ago, ...

2009 C2 manual Aqua Blue on Stone Gray on Blue Top

The option codes on my book say:
XSC - Crest on Headrest
244 - ?? (Anyone got a guess here - maybe this is the wood interior?)
267 - Automatically dimmable interior
342 - Heated seats
419 - Carerra S II wheels
437 - Comfort Seat Left
438 - Comfort Seat Right
446 - Colored Wheel Crests
537 - Left seat with positrol and lumbar
615 - Prepared for telephone / DVD Navigation
619 - Bluetooth
671 - Voice control system
672 - Navigation Module
680 - Bose Surround Sound System

Have installed 7mm/15mm spacers and Suncoast SSK. Did a clearbra on everything in front of and including the side mirrors (full bumper, fenders, hood, and lights). Only future plans for getting multifunction control, media interface for iPod, and sport exhaust.

Otherwise it's my dream car couldn't be happier =)
