I keep looking at the 991 hoping to love it but there is so much that I don't like. I can deal with the excessive letters on the back by just removing them but the bigger back seats, the center console and the accessibility of the motor drive me a little crazy. I'm thinking that I'll just go for a 997.2 GT3 next time around.

Great looking car. How much lower than stock? What is the spoiler, looks like a ducktail?

I was a Bimmer guy loving 540s. But then along came Mr. Bangle and my last 540 was E39 design. Fortunately unlike BMW, 991 style strikes my nerve. It is sure one nice looking car to me, however some mechanical changes mentioned above are questionable to say the least. Being a manual tranny guy, new 7-speed manual sure seems like a showstopper. I've read reviews saying that the gates are so close people having troubles going into right gears and sometimes downshift unexpectedly instead of upshifting. Porsche provides the gear indicator now, but this is no help IMO. I will have to warm up towards PDK before I will consider going 991. Could happen in couple of years though, as it might be no other choices left for people who like good-ol' mechanical designs as all manufacturers are going electrical steering, drive by wire, clutchless transmissions etc. Grrrrr

I would not drive any car that's fun for me to drive like this 911 without a stick....like Matt says....for me it's 75% of the driving! I just bought a 1987 CJ-7 for our house in Florida and he had 2...an auto or a stick...I picked the stick and on that vehicle it's 90% of the fun.
To each his own with the stick....but the 991......looks wise.......not for me!

Three Wheelin'
Ducktail looks great on your car Matt; not so much on the 991s I have seen with them. In Wash state we don't take too kindly to Ducks (Oregon). Tommy's color looks so special on his 997, like Dan's in SB.

I love our 997.2 4S 6 speed. Yesterday, however, I ended up at one of the local Porsche dealerships and they tossed me the keys to a new 991 C4S PDK that was pretty much loaded with everything and told me to have a good time. I took it for a nice drive, I did not beat it or thrash it but did put it in Sport mode and let it shift itself as I got onto the freeway. The car also had PSE and I enjoyed playing with that. I really liked the car -a lot. I was surprised that it did not seem big to me. It really rode nice and the engine sounded great and pulled hard. I did not think I would like the console but it integrates well into the car and I ended up liking it too.
I will have to keep my wife away from the dealership or I could see her in one of those in a couple years. The car I drove had a $133K price on it.

I think the 991 is quite a departure from the 997, although not as much as the 996 from the 993. The thing I love about the 997 is it brought back a lot of what I loved about the 993. I had a 996 and I got tired of the look fairly quickly once the 997 came out. I don't have the same feeling about the 991.

I've liked 911s for years. But when the 997 came out in 04, it made a big impression on me. Knew I had get it someday. Will always remember the first sighting on the road, a shiny silver S with the lobster wheels at speed. The 993 and 966 never produced the same feeling. 997 seems closer to the original that nailed modern performance and looks.
The 991 looks like the right evolution, so down the road I can switch. But there is no rush given the 997.
