Compliments
I was walking to my 997 and a minivan had parked next to me with a three-generation family getting out...grandpa, mother & father, teenage children. As the elderly man walked by he mentioned sincerely, "Nice Camaro" maybe because the Carrera was difficult to read or something, I don't know. I smiled and told him thank you. As they all walked away I could hear the embarrassed teenage daughter whisper to him, "That's not a Camaro."
A few years back I had a red Audi S4. Parked it and as I was walking away, a middle-aged couple walked by, the man said: nice car! The woman was rather clueless, looked at the four circles and said: Are you with the Olympics or something?
I don't mean to sound arrogant but I get them all the time - most likely because the odds of seeing a Turquoise Blue 997 are pretty slim.
Once though, I was just about to open the drivers door when a bunch of fire fighters walked by. One of them broke away from the group and said, "I'll meet you back at the house, I'm gonna' drive my car back" and headed over to my car. He stopped short, all of his friends laughed at him, and he said, "Nice car". I asked him if he wanted to drive it (it's only a car after all) and he said, "Really?" "Sure", I replied. I didn't know this (but I should have), when they are on duty firefighters have to be with their truck whether they are shopping, going to Starbucks or where ever. I felt sort of bad for offering when he told me this but he did seem appreciative nevertheless.

Some years ago, before I got the 997, I was driving my 993 Targa (top back and windows down) on I-95 when I noticed a sheriff's car in the rear view mirror several cars back. I brought my speed down to 75 or so and just tried to "blend in" as much as I could given the car.
Sure enough, a few minutes later he was alongside my car, where he proceeded to slow down and match my speed. I stayed "eyes forward" until, after about 30 seconds, the officer chirped his siren at me.
I looked over at him and he held up his ticket clipboard. Then he cracked a big smile and showed me the clipboard's underside - completely covered by a Porsche crest decal! He then gave me a big thumbs-up and accelerated away.

The positive out weighs the negative with my experiences with my P cars. I live in the Los Angeles area and what I get a lot from the asian people as I am passing them they look over at me then cover their eyes, not sure what's up with this?
I get told the car is "beautiful". And frankly I agree...I have loved the looks of 911's since I was a kid.
On the 997 I think the designers really stayed true to the original, but advanced the car in all the right ways.

I have also been mistaken for driving a Camaro!

I always hold my nose when driving by infinities lol!!! and make sure the drivers see me!
I was driving out of a multistory car park with the girlfriend one night after going to see a movie. Drove past a guy standing in the car park who shouted "Small dick". Made me laugh. Oh hang on I guess that's not a complement!
