That's funny.

A few years back I had a red Audi S4. Parked it and as I was walking away, a middle-aged couple walked by, the man said: nice car! The woman was rather clueless, looked at the four circles and said: Are you with the Olympics or something?

I don't mean to sound arrogant but I get them all the time - most likely because the odds of seeing a Turquoise Blue 997 are pretty slim.

Once though, I was just about to open the drivers door when a bunch of fire fighters walked by. One of them broke away from the group and said, "I'll meet you back at the house, I'm gonna' drive my car back" and headed over to my car. He stopped short, all of his friends laughed at him, and he said, "Nice car". I asked him if he wanted to drive it (it's only a car after all) and he said, "Really?" "Sure", I replied. I didn't know this (but I should have), when they are on duty firefighters have to be with their truck whether they are shopping, going to Starbucks or where ever. I felt sort of bad for offering when he told me this but he did seem appreciative nevertheless.

Some years ago, before I got the 997, I was driving my 993 Targa (top back and windows down) on I-95 when I noticed a sheriff's car in the rear view mirror several cars back. I brought my speed down to 75 or so and just tried to "blend in" as much as I could given the car.

Sure enough, a few minutes later he was alongside my car, where he proceeded to slow down and match my speed. I stayed "eyes forward" until, after about 30 seconds, the officer chirped his siren at me.

I looked over at him and he held up his ticket clipboard. Then he cracked a big smile and showed me the clipboard's underside - completely covered by a Porsche crest decal! He then gave me a big thumbs-up and accelerated away.

The positive out weighs the negative with my experiences with my P cars. I live in the Los Angeles area and what I get a lot from the asian people as I am passing them they look over at me then cover their eyes, not sure what's up with this?

I get told the car is "beautiful". And frankly I agree...I have loved the looks of 911's since I was a kid. On the 997 I think the designers really stayed true to the original, but advanced the car in all the right ways.

best for me is when I have been at a gas station with skis on the rack of my 997.2 C4S with aerokit and people say "that's so cool that you actually drive your car!"

I was driving out of a multistory car park with the girlfriend one night after going to see a movie. Drove past a guy standing in the car park who shouted "Small dick". Made me laugh. Oh hang on I guess that's not a complement!

Yeah I was laughing because he intended it as an insult but I took it as a complement.

I've had the same thing happen to me too. haha. A random motorist just yelled it out to me. At first I was thinking, who in the hell just yells something like that to a stranger, but then it became funny and a joke the more I shared the story with friends.

I had a young couple walk behind my car once while I was sitting at idle and I heard them say "camera" and chuckle. It took me a while to figure out why until I really looked at the Carrera badge, and yes, it does look like it says Camera. lol
