Compliments
When I first got my car, I was driving home in heavy traffic in a rain storm when another 997 in the adjacent lane flashed their lights at me, then smiled and waved as they flashed by. A nice introduction.
Also, last summer my wife and I were driving home from a day hike on Mt. Rainier with the top down when stopped at a stop light, the driver of an immensely tall four-wheel-drive pick-up hailed us from above with, "That's the way to ride! Beautiful car!."
There are always the jerks, but they don't seem to make much of an impression on me.

Parked at a Blenz Coffee in the evening for coffee with my mates. As I walk towards the coffee shop a lady sitting on an outside table stands up from her seat and yells across "NICE CAR!". I give her a thumbs up and say "Thanks it is a great car!".
Stopped at a light next to a Toyota with a small boy in the back leering over with the amazed look on his face as he scopes the 997 from front to back, I give him the thumbs up and show him some off the line acceleration and exhaust euphoria to the ears.
In general there are plenty of nice cars where I live around Vancouver, but its amazing how much attention people give and the smiles it puts on their faces when they see the 997 coming. It's a great feeling just as when I was a boy to see a 911 zoom past, and for those few seconds you freeze and all you can see and hear is that beast. Thats where dreams come from!
Wish you all the best with your P-cars and hope they make not only yours but someones else's day

One day back in the summer, I drove to the daycare to pick up my three year old grandson who loves to ride in the P car (997.2S). As my grandson and I were walking to the car to leave a lady in the mini van behind me said..."that is a nice car to be hauling young 'uns, what is it anyway?....a Mazda?" My grandson immediately responded "no, it's a Porsche (pronounced correctly!)
I had the funniest day last week. I was on my way to a quick lunch when I noticed a little Celica flying up in my passenger side mirror. I looked over and it was a young 20 something just pulling up to give me a thumbs up. I pulled up to the restaurant and as I was getting out a guy stopped in the middle of the parking lot and said "Wow, nice car" then on my way out two Mercedes mechanics (in their dealership uniforms) were checking out the car. One of them said "Those Germans sure know their sh*t". Yes they do. Three compliments in one lunch must be a record.
The other funny one was when I was giving my 7 year old son a ride in the back. We drove by a group of his friends and they stared slack jawed and you could see one of them mouthing "He has a Porsche?"

The one that really sticks in my mind was the one I least expected.
A 'kid', maybe early 20's, was crossing the street (on foot) as I waited to turn left. He and I probably wouldn't meet on an ordinary day. He'd just hopped off the 16A bus. Droopy pants. Dreads. Unlaced sneakers and a bike messenger pack.
"Great car" he said with a big nod, from about 15 feet away.
"Thanks man" I replied. "I really appreciate that."
"Nah, it's beautiful. Good luck with it." The last bit was as he spun 'round on his heel.
Makes me smile every time I think of it.

best complient was a young kid, maybe 16-17 in the front passenger seat (his mom was driving) and he rolled down the window to say, "Take the car back to your daddy" .. lol.. he doesn't know that I'm old eough to be his dad
Had a young couple (early 30's?) with their infant in a stroller comment a couple years back. I had the top down and it was a nice NorCal spring morning. I was returning to the car and noticed they had slowed their walk and were looking at the car. When I arrived the young lady turned and said "Dude, nice car". It really caight me off guard so all I could muster was "thank you". They continued with their walk. Other than the neighborhood kids that has been the only comment, good or bad, I've received. But in the area I live, these cars are not uncommon.
The last two times that I've gone out to dinner at restaurants at the cosmopolitan hotel here in vegas when the valet brought the car up and I got up to get the car, I've heard people near me who were waiting for the valet to get their cars say "no effing way" and "you gotta be kidding me". I guess I attract haters who can't believe that I own a great car.
All good stories, here is mine:
Was sitting in my car in front of the bank. An old lady in her late 80's came out using her walker very slowly, was trying to unlock her gigantic Buick as I started my car. She turned back slowly, saw my car, let go of the walker with one hand and gave me a thumbs up with a big smile. It was priceless.
Only if she was 60 years younger.............

The GTS/Aerokit/SY combo has attracted unwanted attention (street racer wannabe ZL1 and STI come to mind), but reactions at stop lights and gas stations have been 100% positive.
The funniest encounter was near dusk one evening, pulling up to a red light beside a couple of very serious bike riders on their carbon fiber bikes. I had the windows down and sunroof open, so easily heard one of them say, "Hey, wanna trade?". I thanked him for the offer but politely declined. Now if I had been in my 95 M3.....

Last September I was driving, top down, on a residential street (long uphill stretch, in 2nd gear). Noticed a kid, about 13, on his BMX bike, at the side of the road, working on his stunts. He pretty much froze, and watched, and listened, to me approach. Unfortunately, he "stalled" and went down in a heap, just as I got beside him. I stopped, and asked him if he was ok. In a strained voice, as he rose, he said, "All good, Dude...love that car!".
In my years of Porsche ownership I have got some pretty funny ones, like a very obviously intoxicated redneck at an overlook on skyline drive asking me if the boxster I had at the time was a Ferrari. The best odd one I've got with my 911 was when I ordered a new set of tires through tire rack and the ups lady delivering them asked if they fit the car out front, and then said they must be very good off road being so wide and all.
I was walking to my 997 and a minivan had parked next to me with a three-generation family getting out...grandpa, mother & father, teenage children. As the elderly man walked by he mentioned sincerely, "Nice Camaro" maybe because the Carrera was difficult to read or something, I don't know. I smiled and told him thank you. As they all walked away I could hear the embarrassed teenage daughter whisper to him, "That's not a Camaro."
