I don't think oil goes bad, but gasoline definitely does.
There's a big difference between oil that comes from the ground compared to treated oil that goes into your engine wouldn ya say ?

With refining and additives there has to be a possibility of breakdown over a duration.
Mobile 1 has a five year shelf life........

I'd be willing to bet that exposure to oxygen impacts even crude oil.

The actual oil that makes up 80 to 90% of the motor oil has a very long shelf life. The additives (10 to 20%) have a shorter life.
