Default Seriously looking at purchase of 997, need advice

Hey, I have never posted here but have been a member for almost a year. Mostly I have been over looking at the marketplace. So, I find myself getting serious about a 2009 C2S. In general, I am looking for advice from all who have some to give. I have been looking at 997.1 and 997.2 but believe I like the .2 if I can get to it financially.

So, what do I need to know about these cars before I dive off the cliff?

Thanks in advance,

Go for the 997.2. The DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) engine in the 997.2 is proving to be a very reliable piece. there is none of the issues that have cropped up in earlier model engines. A 997.2 is the newest thing you can get without plunging for the newest 991 model. I have had zero mechanical issues with my 2009 Carrera S, other than a recall for the high pressure fuel pump. and a clutch sensor, neither of which I had any problems with. Tire wear is something you'll need to watch (especially rears) but that is an issue you'll have to deal with in either model. The extra you'll pay for a 997.2 will be offset by some piece of mind regarding durabilty, although there are plenty of earlier models out there going strong (how's that for being politically correct!!). Your best best is to find a CPO'd car so you'll have some factory backing.

I currently have a 2009 997.2 S Cab. I can echo what PTParks said above. Clutch switch and HPFP were both fixed under warranty/recall. Dealer was very good about it. Those are the only issues I've had. Car is a beast. Absolutely love it.

DoubleA...please allow me to jump in as well. I purchased a 2009 997.2.S in September. The car is CPO, had 19K miles on it when I bought it, and I have added about another 2K miles since then. I can say that the car has been completely trouble free and very fun to drive. A few additional things I might add, I bought it CPO from a reputable Porsche dealer in Atlanta and I have some peace of mind being that this is my first Porsche. The CPO warranty runs through August 2015. Also, I have a 6 spd trans but that is a personal choice. I truly enjoy feeling like one with the car when I drive it. Also, given that this is my first, and certainly not last Porsche, I joined the Porsche Club of America and have found the local chapter to be a great resource for questions about the cars. Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.

What do you want to know?
For starters, they're awesome! get a per-purchase inspection. make sure the 40k service was done. i think spark plugs needed changing at 40k or 4 yrs.

Bought my first 911 in October. '09 C4S with CPO. IMHO, the CPO is worth the money, if anything for peace of mind. 997.2 was my preference.

I'd ask that they confirm that the 40,000 and 4 yr stuff is done (date of warranty start dependent) , two keys and all of the books, the later two are suppose to be part of a CPO sale anyway.

I have no regrets and lots of smiles per mile these past few months!

PPI and CPO, HPFP plus services and you should be good to go. All the acronyms.

Go for the CPO, you get the peice of mind, but it also ensures that everything they check that does not meet standards has to be fixed.

I also just went through this, I determined the 997.2 was worth the premium for me. 44K miles is a lot, get a DME report not just for revs, see how many hours the motor has on it as well. Based on your brief description I would say that car is low 60's.

Good luck, take your time, you will know the car for you when you find it.

I had an '09 C4S, but PDK put me off. Now I'm back to a 997.1 with manual. I'm very happy with my decision. The biggest advantage for me with the 997.2 was the improved interior (switches, PCM, etc.).

I had a .1-loved it.
Now have a .2-love it a bit more.
I noticed you're looking at a car with a cocoa interior. My current car has that interior. Love it, too!

Why would you tell someone to avoid an engine with improved economy, higher power, and eliminated IMS/RMS issues?

I have a CPO 997.2 C4S in natural brown leather and love that interior. Extra cost option by the original buyer. Can't get it anymore. Better grade leather.
