Default 991 NOT FOR ME

Got to a 3.4 manual base car 7 speed over the weekend. I currently drive an 05 6speed carrera. I did not like it at all.

-- steering was numb compared to 997. I miss the twitchy go cart feel. Thats what a 911 is supposed to be.
-- did not like seating position.Felt like a 928 s4 i had. No forward facing feel. Miss the openess of my car in the interior.
-- the engine felt sluggish even in sport mode. Dont know if the gearing had something to do with it. Mine felt more responsive.
-- also like seeing the flat front, no fenders when driving

overall is car was smooth but felt blahh. The interior was good quality as was the rest of the car. I have had numerous older aircooled 911/turbos and always felt the 997 provided a similar feel with plenty of creature comforts, the perfect 911.

i may try to find a 2010 GT3 as a keeper. The 911 series ended at the 997 at least for me it did.

thanks but no thanks

Wow! Your post is so appropo at least for me!
I'm just bought a 2011 997 with 2000 miles on her...
Wasn't sure if I made the right choice as I could have got a bare 991 for just a few $ more than my 997...

I too drove the 991 and didn't get the buzz! The interior felt roomier but I just didnt connect to the 991 either...

I drove a 991 S...and loved the seating position...slightly lower felt more in the car instead of on top of the car. The steering felt more plush...the overall car felt more plush than than any of the Carrera S 997's I've owned or my current GTS. I like the 991...but I'm in no rush to get out of my GTS for a 991S.

For less money than a minimally equipped 991 Carrera, you can get a well equipped leftover 997.2 S. If you eventually like the 991, you have a chance to get one. I think the 997 will hold up well as far as depreciation is concerned. The 991 is a lot more especially with all the new options available.

Riz, you are very correct....the 991S I drove had the usual stuff, PDK, power seats, Nav, Bose, Sport Chrono, leather dash...sticker was something around $131K...Yikes!

Oil change at Suncoast Friday afternoon so I wandered about for an hour. Their silver 991 demo still sat up front next to a black GTS. Was offered the key to the demo again and said no thanks again. I have no interest in that car. Don't like the shape and curves of it and I'm not buying a car for $130K that doesn't stir my emotions when I look at. The GTS next to the demo looked as delicious as it did last time I saw those two together though so the new one is not growing on this consumer. I'm buying what you have when it's time to trade.

I also test-drove a 991. Electric steering, electric parking brake, Panamera-style luxury interior, piped-in engine sound...in many ways the 991 is more car than the 997. It's just less Porsche.

+1 i love the car i have, and plan to drive it many more year. That said, if money were no object I would have already placed an order for the 991 C2S. I think it basically made every small nitpick I have about my 997 irrelevant as they fixed all of them.
