When you say changed back, do you mean from the stock plastic plenum back to the IPD one? Or was this a downgrade from the larger IPD competition plenum to the 74mm standard one with the appropriate throttle body changes?

I had the 82mm IPD plenum but I had so many problems with fabspeed and their tuner after installing their cold air intake that I reverted back to the stock throttle body. I don't want to hijack the thread but episode cost me about $5,000. But I'll say IPD is awesome to work with and have great customer service.

Update: John form Fabspeed called me today and we had a good chat. My issue happened 3 years ago but he invested the time to listen and did the right thing.

OK, thanks. I just recently upgraded to the 82mm IPD plenum and larger throttle body. The car has X51 headers, high flow cats and tuned by VRTuned but still on the standard 3.8L airbox. The plenum and throttle body where the last pieces.

My car runs smoother now above 4K rpms and pulls a tiny bit stronger at 5K+ rpms. But the engine growl is slightly lower below 4K. That and I had problems fitting the stiff 82mm hose between the airbox and larger throttle body - it's too long and the recesses at the attachment points make it difficult to shorten. I ended up trading that hose out for an OEM X51 airbox hose and fabricated an extension piece for it to fit properly to the standard airbox.

I'm probably going to stick with the larger TB/plenum but will admit I've thought of downgrading to the standard one.

I found the trick being attach it to the airbox first and tighten the clamp down. Then use your fingers to spread the other end onto the throttle body.

I'm sorry to hear about the experience you had. We’ve been making many changes and improvements here. We are continuing to work towards higher standards while offering better support. I’d like to have a private chat to get up to speed on your situation and see if there is anything we can do for you. If you could give me a call or shoot me a PM it would be much appreciated

This is interesting to me. On my RUF supercharged C2S car, I have Fabspeed J-Pipe, Fabspeed Headers, 200 cell cats, & their valvetronic mufflers. For visual symmetry in the engine compartment, I waited a long time for the J-Pipes, Y-Pipe replacement and changed it out once it was made available. I actually had to trim one side of the Y-Pipe for the larger air filters used with that setup to fit inside the rear deck hydraulic rams for my active aero upper spoiler, which probably contributed to the issue I had, but once I installed the Y-Pipe, the car ran very poorly. Thought maybe the ECU needed time to adjust so drove it about 150 miles. Not much change. Did the battery disconnect to force the ECU reset. No change. Went back to the J-Pipe and the car ran flawlessly again. The reason I say this post is interesting is because I'm wondering if you can't overwhelm the ECU or DME with too much intake air for which the fuel maps can't compensate. The problems I had with the Y-piper were the car stumbling off idle and falling flat during full throttle pulls at high RPMs, none of which occur with the J-Pipe. My theory is that with the dual intake paths and the higher air density from the supercharger, that the fuel management system just became overwhelmed. The car runs flawlessly with the current setup, so I'm done messing around with further mods in that department. Just wanted to add some personal experience I had along similar lines.

BTW, I have IPD Plenums in both my wife's stock 997.1 C2S and just put an 82mm one into my '09 Cayenne Turbo S last night (haven't even driven it yet). On the 997 though, throttle response was improved, mid-range and top-end pull were both improved. No dyno #s, but definitely a difference.

Someone stated the only way to make more power is to get more air (and corresponding correct amount of fuel) in and out of the engine and how could just an intake plenum do that? With the IPD design, I believe the air going through the plenum is much straighter and probably has a higher velocity compared to the stock T-shaped plenum and that air in the stock plenum is probably much more turbulent inside. If the air is "bouncing around" in the plenum, that could certainly limit the amount of air entering the engine, thus limiting the power available. I don't have any evidence or test data to back this up, just offering it as a plausible explanation for the results that those of us with the IPD plenum are feeling.

Also, it's really a nice unit and although mostly hidden on the 997, it's front and center in the engine bay on the Cayenne TTS.

I realized again today there's the headers and cats from Fabspeed plus 82mm Intake Plenum but po sold cans and replaced with Borla. I have all the flexible tubing from Fabspeed as well.

Much appreciated JW, and it was great chatting with you. Brian in customer service said he reached out and you guys had a nice conversation as well. One of these days you should stop by to meet the new Fabspeed, and the three of us can have lunch

Thank you very much for the kind words. This is more than a business, this is a community. It is the least I can do, and on 4/30 i'll be joining as a Porsche owner myself at long last haha

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Fabspeed, the most recent being last week with Alex. Bought a set of secondary cat bypass pipes for my 957 Cayenne and needed the instructions. Sent Alex an email and within 15 minutes had a response with the instructions attached. Installed them yesterday. Fabspeed's quality is fantastic - thickness of the material, quality of the welds, mandrel bends, fitment, etc. This is my second Porsche with a Fabspeed exhaust product on it - wish they made them for my '79 928 and my 914.

Thanks - nice offer, just not very realistic since we're probably 12-14 hours apart. What I need to do is have other Rennlist buddies with the same year and model cars decide to go in with me, have them drop off their cars, and you make 2 of everything
