I got a return wave today from a 997, which in my mind is further proof that these machines are filtering down into the hands of enthusiasts. Never used to get a wave from one. Still waiting for my first return wave from a 991.

Before I get all indignant, however, I guess I don't wave at Cayennes, Macans or Panameras.

I got a wave from a 991 last Saturday, so it does happen.

I get waves from 991's all the time if they are male drivers, female drivers never wave, they probably think you are trying to get their attention. 991's are more common here than 997s, at least on the road that I drive. I gave up waving to Cayennes, and Pannys, they don't have the slightest clue and many times, they are not paying attention to the other side of the road.

Good point on enthusiasts or past lack there of! I had a new '09 C2S and waving / recognition, was spotty at most. When I'm in my Targa and come across other air cooled P-cars, almost always get a wave, thumb or brights. Much deeper brotherhood in the air cooled world.

It's a sports car thing. I flash at all Porsche sports cars (911, Boxster, Cayman, 918, CGT,...). Don't even blink at the others. Get a response most of the time, say 75%, but I'm driving enthusiast roads most of the time, too.

I waived at a lady in a 991 yesterday as she was about to run me over while crossing the street appropriately in a cross walk... That was most likely a Miami thing though.

I just got my first pcar, an 09' C4S, and I'll be sure to waive at all fellow 911 owners. I will probably extend a waive to the Cayman and Boxster owners, but in Miami, the Panamera, Cayenne, and Macan owners are usually too busy texting or looking at things other than the road to notice a waive. Wish me luck!

I used to wave but Pcar owners in my area aren't too friendly.

In Warsaw today. One Cayman and one 991. Neither wave back. I will continue though. Start a movement.....

Lots of Cayennes and Panameras here but they don't even look. It's just any other car.....

As long as I'm not doing over 100, I normally hang out the window and flash the following...

I do usually get a response, but rarely is it a return 'P' sign, or even a wave. Normally, people laugh at me, or, even more often, resort to profanity and name calling (and not just from the guy in the Porsche!).

The Porsche community isnt as tight as it once was. I blame the Cayenne.

Just this morning I was driving my 86 Targa and came up on a 991 GTS Cab. I waved but he was too busy talking on the phone (holding it to his ear) to even know I was there. I guess the Bluetooth was broke or he didn't know how to set it up. I wave to all 911s and Caymans. Also wave to 914s and 928s, got to have respect for those enthusiasts. The newer the 911 the less chance of getting a response.

Most Porsche owners are too old to wave. I gave up.

LOL i have to agree with this one. a lot more of the young guys wave; the older guys almost never. I've had my share of laughing at myself for feeling like an idiot to waving at those whom never reciprocate… (not that it has stopped me since).
