Default Waves

If I wave from the Boxster, I maybe get a wave from another Boxster. From a 911 never.

If I wave from the Cayenne, I get nothing. But, to be fair, the Cayenne windows are dark.

I did have a guy in a beautiful old 911 flash. Once. I flashed back.

Boaters too. I'm 50/50 on return waves in the car.

Real Porsche pilots don't wave -- they flash!

The Queen of England waves.

Case in point: a short train of three 911s were blasting up the Sonoma Coast a short while back.

Lead 911 observed a Porsche traveling in the opposite direction a few turns up (and I mean UP as in elevation & distance) the road.

Two hands on the wheel in our vintage makes waving very difficult so lead pilot does what Ferry intended: FLASH.

Flash given.

Flash received (as well as requisite whiplash by oncoming pilot) as the train briskly passed.

Repeat story two times for that run.

There was no waving.

If you are waving, you would not be properly enjoying.

(Tongue firmly in cheek...sort of...)

I've had a few Jeeps so when I first got a 911 I started waving to test the waters and a few have waved back....maybe next time I will flash but usually when you flash here it's to signal a Police ahead so that might slow them down.

So wait, how do you flash with two hands on the wheel?

The last time that happened to me, I was on my CB650 in full Cafe Racer regalia on the Lake/Michigan intersection.

She was cute. Blonde, Cs. Quite drunk.

I have tried to wave... but what I usually get are the big grins and head nods.. which is just fine with me.. as I usually do the same...

I wave sometimes... but give the grin and nod.

I just use my fingertips to activate the flash. Hand does stay on the wheel.

If eye contact happens, it usually involves a nod of the head. With distance it grows to a hand acknowledgement without taking it off the wheel...then a small wave...then a flash of lights. With all the daytime running lights, flashing has gotten me the least responses.

Bingo; just who I would expect to get it right!

Porsche is a driver's car and as such, vital controls are all able to be utilized with two hands on the wheel.

Now if you're cruising down Ventura Blvd., a head nod, Royal wave, stupid grin, etc., will suffice.

I happen to live in a part of the Bay Area where alerting one's neighbor's to LEO presence is enthusiastically practiced.

However when two Porsches meet, a single flash will adequately communicate the shared love, and not cause undue heartache...if it does, better to be safe than sorry.

I will smile & wave if I can (i.e. When I'm traveling in a straight line). I also attribute headlight flashing to speed trap warnings, so a wave to me is less ambiguous.

Always do a quick wave (more like extending left hand fingers while keeping hands on the wheel) to 911's, and get a high response from air-cooled and 50% from water cooled drivers. It's funny though, when driving previous air-cooled cars the water cooled response was much lower. I don't typically wave at non-911's, but will wave back in response.
