Thank you!

Is the factory PCM still installed or do you have an aftermarket radio?

Sometimes connecting without the factory PCM can cause issues.

i replaced the woofers in the Bose sub box with Dayton Audio Signature 5.25s. Easy job. Sounds great. Looks great. One of the stockers was giving some nasty static. Now I have the bug to upgrade more sh**!

After doing the doors, I wanted to apply Dynamat to the wheel wells. I tried getting access to the outer panels from the interior, but found it very difficult to remove the interior rear side panels and gain proper access. There's also sound sound proofing material in place already, and the metal appears to be multi-layered and stiff already, so I wonder if adding Dynamat would even make a difference. I might try the inner wheel wells behind the well liners at some point. I've seen a post here of someone doing this on a 991, but these have more area covered by the wheel well liner.
I then pulled off the carpet behind the rear sets and found this panel of rather thin metal.

The carpet has a foam button that should provide some vibration dampening, but as I was already here I decided to apply some Dynamat to it anyways:

I'm getting the feeling that the only effective way to reduce road noise by insulation would be to go all the way with removing the rear carpet and adding closed-cell foam and mass-loaded vinyl. This is beyond what I was planning to do with the car, but at this point the noise level (around 77 dB at 100 kph, compared to 66 dB for my W211 Mercedes E-class, measured with the NIOSH SLM app) limits my enjoyment of longer highway rides a bit. I guess that going to 18" wheels and tires might be an option. Any suggestions for a nice 18" wheel that fits these cars? I'm not the biggest fan of the Carrera III and IV wheels. I really like the 996 five-spoke Carrera wheel, but I think the offset aren't right for the 997.

This looks like a worthwhile little mod.
Can you tell me more about the difference in sound quality?
Also was there anything else that needed to be purchased? Rings or Adapters?
I see you used a couple of different screws to mount them?

Thanks

Road noise is a real problem!

For me, insulating the inner of the outermost door panels made the most significant improvement. Huge drop in road roar, and huge increase in mid bass sound quality

For fun, I added material to the backside of the wheel liners. This improvement was noticeable, though diminished above 100 km/hr.

Tires are now coming with sound reducing tech, though I doubt in our sizes . . .

Isn't Dynamat heavy? How much weight are you adding to the car ?

The Dynamat Xtreme that I use is quite thin and not very heavy, 0.45 lbs/200g per square foot. I've got 4 to 5 square feet installed right now. In other words it doesn't get heavy until you do the full car including CCF+MLV.

Finally got around to installing my Eibach springs, PASM Bilsteins, mounts, bearings, bumps stops, and endlinks. Not to difficult to install.

Stockers had 79K on them and were tired.

Fender gap looks perfect! Are those 20 inch 991 wheels?

Yep. 7mm spacer on the back, nothing on the front.
