Not sure if this was posted (it's from June)... but here's the latest Max Performance tire test results at Tire Rack... Michelin Super Sport is indeed SUPER, head and shoulders above the rest. PZero (only N-rated tire) holds its own on the track (specially in dry), but falls behind on other tests, S04/DW still really great, but more GT it looks like.
their tests are pretty good for street performance evaluation but i would not pay much attention to their 'track' section. they do not run those tires nearly hard or long enough to establish how they perform on a track. so far people who tried to run super sports on a track had quite a mixed reviews.

yep, higher tread feels less stable.
no one yet reported same melting issues ps2 tires had but again, it is difficult to say if people who buy SS for track really drive them that hard to push them into melting point.

You're probably right.
I at least know from experience that PZero (no the Rosso version), and PS2 do fine on track... whether or not the PSS is better or worse remains to be seen.
I also think PZero is the OEM tire on the new McLaren! Interesting fact...
The M PSS is certainly a great tire, but we could not conclude that by reading that report. That TireRack page does not rate it higher than the others...
I ran the PZero Rosso Asimmetrico on the track for 2 years. Thought they were great. Handle great on the road as well.
Now on MPSCs. Great for track. Drove through torrential downpour as well, handled fine. Wasn't ripping around corners, but did 5.5 hr drive on the highway okay--just slowed down a bit for safety.

Agreed... there are good as reference. Although they definiately rated it higher than others. More on the charts section here
No RE-11's, AD08's, or Direzza Star Specs were included. I suspect the new SS would not have faired so well in a four way test with these other tires.
They ALWAYS test upto a max of 4 tires.. just look at other reviews. I think it's a fair test with tires of exact same category (Max Performance). The ones you mentioned are typically tested in another category (Extreme Performance).
If Tire Rack says the SS's are 'max' instead of 'extreme', does that imply they don't perform as well? Do you purchase tires based on classifications by Tire Rack? Many 911 owners were anxiously awaiting the SS's, thinking they would provide track performance approaching MPSC's, but with the wear and streetability characteristics of PS2's.
It seems to me that Tire Rack should have tested the SS against the aforementioned tires. My perception is that Michelin hit a double with the SS. The buzz surrounding the tire (pre launch) suggested a home run.
Super Sports are receiving good reviews from everyone that has tried them.
There's one thing that does bother me though, the Super Sports weigh considerably more than the Bridgestones and several other tires available.
I looked up the weight from the manufacturer's sites when doing research on new tires. I went with the Super Sports base on the reviews. Don't let the weight concern you, they are actually lighter than all the Bridgestone models for the Spyder sizes.
