would have been a nice subject to talk about. I had a 933 Twin Turbo. The perfect example of the 933 that is the perfect example of the aircooled 911.

But in my experience the 933 TT was a thrill to drive, however the 997.2 S PDK is superior in everyway shape and form. In fact if you were to establish a hierarchy, my 996 GT3 was surperior to my 993 TT, and the 997 PDK C2S is superior to my 996 GT3. The wild card is my 997 GT3, I am not sure the PDK is faster than that car, I believe it is. But I would need to drive them again back to back.

Paul K had said that I should get a 993, but I think I would prefer to go forward and not back. Is it true that the 997 does not come in a cab? HAVE to have a cab

I am a true novice, so I am open to ALL discussions. You bring up an interesting subject. Maybe that should be my thread: Owners of multiple Porsches - Please list them in order preferred and why.

Well Karen I would love to talk to you about the subject on EMail which is in the bottom of my sig.

I can tell you alot about the 993. I was a special contributor to Adrians Streather's book "The 993 Handbook" So I know ALOT about the 993 TT. I know alot about dealers who specialize in 993's
And I have a good idea of the 997's both the 997.1 GT3 and the 997.2 C2S PDK.
So if you need any help please email me.

Depending on your budget I would advise a 997.2 S PDK. And of course buy the newest you can afford.

But the 993 is just drop dead gorgeous.

Here's my 997 cabriolet, my 1996 993 cannot compare to this car, IMO.

Nothing compares to the beauty of the *** of a 993 wide body (S or 4S).

If your first 911 is water cooled you probably wouldn't get why the 993 is so special and you might not be drawn to it. Air cooled rocks but doesn't work out so well as a DD.

The other thing is like Mark says, the reliability is going to be an issue. If you buy a car with the original shocks, then they are likely shot. You need to find an example that doesnt have the Secondary air injection issue etc etc.

The 997 will likely be an instant daily driver.

It will be a DD and my son says it MUST be a cab - I thought the 993's looked a lot like the 997 - I guess I need to go back and look at them again. Do the 993's and 997's have the same RMS and IMS problems that the 996 has?

NO the 993 had a secondary Air injection issue. Carbon built up in those ports and choked them off. The top has to be rebuilt if that happens. Its the main reason everyone uses Chevron with Techroline to keep those cleaned out.
There WERE a few 997 RMS I remember in the GT3 world but they got fixed and not much of a problem. The first 997 had a WEIRD issue where if you washed your car water got into something under the hood and caused a huge shut down. I remember one former Rennlister went through this and got his money back after months of troubleshooting and trips to the dealer. But his car was a 997 Launch car. Lawyers got involved and he is no longer a rennlister and doesnt post anymore, could be a result of the court case.
The VERY FIRST put on the market. But since then I havent heard any other issues.

The 2009 997.2 was a HUGE upgrade from the 997.1. Some writers called it the most revolutionary upgrade ever between models for Porsche. They said usually there was a change in the Gas cap and all the mags would right about the BIG upgrade for the Porsche gas cap. But this change introduced a 3.8 liter motor with 40% less parts that the previous version and then of course the PDK. A HUGE change for Porsche mid model. Thats why I suggest you get a 997.2 S model with sports chrono.

To me its THREE cars in one. In Normal mode its like a mercedes. Nice and soft, invisible shifting from the PDK.
In Sport mode Everything tightens up in the suspension. Acceleration points are more sharp, and its very much like a GT3. It holds the gears longer for better speed and its awesome!
In Sport PLUS mode, WATCH out!!! Its a pure track car. The suspension tightens up more and the PDK holds the shifts to Redline.

Its just a remarkable car. The only thing I dont like about it is the lack of an aero kit. I am still debating.

Like I said if you need ANY more help feel FREE to email me.

Karen, What's your budget, how much are you willing to pay for and maintain a car?
