One time when I told the dealer about that, the tech did just this- replace the tranny fluid. The problem was fixed for awhile. Then again, it comes and goes...

Many of them do this. Conclusion from earlier threads was that it's basically so common that it's normal. A shifter adjustment may alleviate the problem, but few dealers will adjust under warranty.
