How are the guards attached?

 

My issue with stone guards is that the OEM ones yellow pretty quickly. This is not noticeable on a dark car but on a white one, they look terrible. I remember talking about this in my dealer with the service tech while we were walking around a brand new white GT3 where the guards were already yellowing - it looked terrible.

On a silver car, they aren't really noticeable as stock - mine are over 4 years old and have been in the Texas sun for a lot of that. It's hard to even see them from a distance but up close, they look yellow.

Keep in mind that you don't have to go with the large guards that are seen, herein. Years ago I bought a set for my 911SC bodied Turbo (narrower body) and cut them down to an appropriate size for those flares. These 997 stone guards were designed for the 997 Speedster which is based upon the wider body. When you put these on a narrow body 997 they may not quite look right. Will post some pics when I find my old slides.

 

Why swap out the lobster wheels? I just got lobster wheels to swap out classic wheels for my silver 2007 C2. I might paint them black before I mount tires but I love the lobster wheels. I also have the black 911 badge which looks very nice... not sure about black stone guard. I'd go with clear ones.

 

lobster's look a little too busy IMO, and are also a royal PITA to clean. I like the cleaner/simpler look of the carrera classics.

I think you guys have talked me out of the black stone guards, I'd do it if I was installing black wheels but I think they look out of place with the silver wheels.

in response to Kuhan- the "clear" stone guards on my car are yellowed and speckled with tar and other grit, that's what started this whole thing. I'll just replace them with another set of clear guards.

 

Mine go on this week, although I have black wheels. The color of the car, color of the wheels IMO play a big factor as many have stated. For me, if it looks odd will simply remove and go back to stock. A lot of the fun of owning these cars IMO is trying new things/modding/making the car unique to you as the owner.

I love the black lobsters with the natural outer rim. Who/How did you have
that done?

 

I have been pondering the addition of black stone guards to match my wheels. Mine have been yellow since I bought the car. I have always liked the look ever since the 930 Turbo was launched. Looks like a menacing shark fin.

Can someone handy with photoshop help me out by putting some black stone guards on my photo?

 

I have the Speedster's Black Stoneguard on my Guards Red C2S. I think it really gives a retro look to the car.

 

The factory painted wheels come with the silver outer rim. Also, you can have the painter mask the outer rim if you were having your wheels painted.

I like the black stone gaurds - but my car is black . . .

Also like the lobster claws, I think the 5 spokes have too much open space. I do like some of the other wheels, but prefer to spend my money on maintenance.

I hear what youre sayin about all the similar cars though.

I wonder how the paint would hold up if the outer rim was masked.

 

not a fan of black wheels or black stone guards, but this is all a personal thing so do what you like.
