I don't care for it so much on my C4S. Yet, not that much that I'm willing to swap lids or paint over it! I actually loved it on the 993 and 996 4S. But it doesn't work as well on the 997. Seems like an afterthought, whereas on the 993 and 996 it was meant to be-- giving it that distinctively 911, classic rear look.

Yep...correct Mbiondo...an afterthought.....I'd bet money it wasn't integrated on Mauer's original drawings.
Marketing Dept needed another distinction for model seperation.....got it.
But ya know, anything on the car can be 'fixed'.....that's always been my view.....regardless of the 'value' that view might have for the next owner.

The rear reflector changed the entire visual effect on 997.2

The 2 parts: rear C4S lid and red reflect strip is $960 CDN. Plus paint (I can do the install myself).
Anyone perform this change?
A lot of negative comments from people that dislike the rear reflector. Some noted that it resembles the likes of people hanging reflectors on bicycle wheel spokes. However, in this it works visually by changing the look from a stubby un-sporty rear end to a more low wider profile. This is classic design principle 101 that a horizon line will present a wider visual effect. Personally I hate the 997.2 stubby rear end. The 991 changed that ugly look and has a sleeker look by incorporating slimmer horizontal lines. Just my 2 cents worth.
No likey on the 997 - lthe ast car it looked good on was the 996 C4S because it was thicker and was a continuation of the red section of the taillights - it's just too thin on the newer cars and because of this I don't think writing or ghosting PORSCHE on it will work well. The letters would look very stretched and out of proportion to get any decent width of coverage.
The last car that really integrated the strip well was the 996 C4S. That’s one of the reasons that I hate it when people “upgrade” 996 C4S tail lights to aftermarket LEDs. It ruins the look. Here’s a shot of my old C4S at the dealership:
Yup, I liked the PORSCHE in the reflector on the old school 911s as well. Even added one of the NLA cut-down versions to my 914 when I originally built it in the early 2000s, but as you say, what makes it work is that it's a continuation of the taillights, which it isn't on the 997.2 cars.
Here's an example of how badly an "upgrade" can destroy the original design of a car. I'm not implying that the 997 reflector strip is anything like this abomination, so please don't take it that way.
