cbond, please post your engine serial number (or PM me) - I'd like to see how it fits into the internet-common-knowledge serial number range. Did it have the small bearing? My car is a March 2005 build date... So it's on the bubble. Clutch hasn't been needed yet so haven't taken a look at my bearing or removed the outer seal.

Not sure where to find the Engine serial number, but it is an M97/03, build date of car was January 25, 2006 - took delivery of it on Feb. 20, 2006 and had it ever since. Not sure if it has the big bearing or the smaller one, but I haven't had any indication of IMS failure. I have tracked the car in the past - 3 times, last time in October of 2009. I haven't had to replace the clutch yet, but dealer (and I don't have them do all the work on it) just recommended that I get Porsche's IMS replacement when I get the clutch done. Not sure how good Porsche's is.

Forgot to mention that I now have about 75K miles on it.

2005 launch edition Carrera S, no issues with IMS.

Dropped the engine at 95k, replaced IMS with the IMS Retrofit. The bearing I pulled out already had the seals pulled for better lubrication. I am the 3rd owner so one of the previous owners had done that.

Do you know the mileage when the seals were pulled? Are you sure it was both seals? TIA.

Both seals. Bought the car with 74k km's on it, and previous owner didn't do it, so I suspect < 50k km's it was done.

Interesting. That means they had the bearing out. I wonder why they didn't just change the bearing then...

No idea. Was there a time where it was a known issue without a good aftermarket solution? Perhaps that was the best option at the time. Can only speculate.

Your 2012 Turbo S doesn't have an ims bearing, so I hope it hasn't failed
