Default coolant cap

I changed my serpentine belt today after a spirited 4 hour drive (my work requires that I make 2 four hour drives every week). The belt change went off without a hitch.

However, I did notice a small amount of coolant around the coolant cap. I would say it was less than a half teaspoon of coolant. Has anyone noticed this? It was after some very sprited driving. Or is this a signal that I should replace the coolant cap? I did a search on coolant caps and it seems like they are prone to failure.

Thanks

They are a very poor design--cheap insurance to replace. Cinch it down good when you put it on.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that there has been an update in the design of the cap. Make sure you get the "new" one.

That sound be the latest version ending on 04. They had a 01, 02 and 04. 03 was skipped.

Mine was replaced on my 06S when my car was 1 yr old because of the same crusty reason, none after that.

were newer models fitted with the v4 version? If so does someone know when that might've taken place. Seems like very cheap insurance, but if I have it already, no sense in messing with it.

IIRC, the number is on the cap so you can check to see if yours is the latest.

I chopped up the old V .1 coolant cap and took a few pics for reference. It looks like it was not broken but it just must be some of the seals were getting old and couldn't hold up to the pressure.

from pulling it apart, the function of this thing is:
1. to easily let air into but not out of the system so when the car is shut off and the system is contracting it doesn't pull a vacuum. smaller spring and seal.
2. high pressure blowoff for safety. bigger spring and seal.

I'm not sure which seal was leaking -they both looked pretty good.

That's it. The temperature has suddenly risen to 85 degrees and a small whitish deposit was visible on the coolant cap. Mine is a V1 version (2006 C4S) and will need to be replaced.

Suncoast I presume.... because I hate to deal with my local dealer (Cary, NC).
