Interesting story on CNN Money about the latest Porsche ad campaign.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/25/auto...aign/index.htm
It seems that Porsche's market research indicates that too many people don't know what we already know - that the 911 can be a surprisingly practical car.

it seriously is..
daily drove one for 2 years, drove with me+3 full size adult friends often... never any problems.. TONS of storage space, great vehicle!
the new chassis should be an even better grocery getter with more back legroom!

3 full size friends? How big are you!? I could squeeze 2 full size friends, but I could not say how long the second friend would be friendly. Never thought about 3.

i loved the vehicle for travel, i bought a clothes hamper "rubbermaid" piece from walmart that fit PERFECTLY snug in the frunk.. fill it up and that was perfect, and then duffle bags n the bag seats folded down and seat belted in.. and still had plenty of room.. love the 911!
fit a full set of 19" HRE's in it as well once with their boxes (folded up) the 19x11.5's in the back seats, a front in the frunk and another in the pass seat. lol.

i'm 6'1" 175... another friend up front was 6'1" 180? friends in back 5'9/10" and 160 or so... yes my seat was an inch or so further up than usual but it was fine, we drove 2 hours to the porsches in the park in sarasota and everyone was like "jeez 4 in a carrera!" but it was fine... and hauled em around town other times too.. from clubs and such when other people couldn't drive..

I like the pet carrier one. My german shepherd pup rode in the P-car once. Never again. Whenever I open the door for her to get in, she backs away and looks at me like I am crazy. So we always take the wife's GTI.

I am constantly reminding people what a great family car this is. DD for me through two step kids and current 9 + 5 y/o's. Great grocery getter too. But I would draw the line at hauling mulch - that's what the Cayenne S is for!

The 911 is an amazingly practical car!
I get groceries in the Cab all the time. And on my wedding day, I got chicaned into delivering flowers to the church (pics attached as proof of both)
Plus, what is more practical than a car that is so friggin' awesome you look for stupid errands as an excuse to drive it?

I just picked up a couple of big bags of fertilizer at home depot yesterday. My son and his friends love to ride in the back. I don't see how any adult could ever fit back there though.

I use it for grocery shopping all the time. Love watching the bag boys standing at the back waiting for me to open the engine compartment to load the groceries! Several bystanders who knew better were laughing at that one.
For several years my 911 was my only vehicle, and it had to haul everything for me. And it worked!

Silly 997 owners, you and your tiny rear seat are the used market now, Porsche corporate doesn't care about you anymore, they just want to get set to sell lots of 991s!
A lot of people are downright astonished to discover how practical these cars are as a daily driver. I mean, I take my Boxster S camping and can fit a 15x13' tent, two sleeping bags, two chairs, queen-sized air mattress, coats, shoes... and that's just in the BACK. Plenty of room in the front for a full-sized cooler and backpacks full of gear.

I need to get taped for this.
Stuff I've carried in my 911:
* $300,000 worth of electronics test equipment (behind the seats, under the folded down rear seats, on top of the rear seats (covered with blanket), stacked in the passenger seat and footwell to the top of the doors and frunk full). Drove from SF to San Diego that way for a trade show. Shipped the cheap stuff back and my GF flew in and we drove with the back seats full back via Palm Springs and Paso Robles.
* Fertilizer and topsoil in bags (wrapped in a 2nd layer of garbage bags)
* 8' tall ferns and plants
* Ikea runs (with top down for more space)
* 164cm Snowboard, boots and equipment (top just barely closed!)
* The GF +1 friend in the back, top down across the Bay Bridge several times.
* Countless Costco runs.
