Interesting story on CNN Money about the latest Porsche ad campaign.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/25/auto...aign/index.htm
It seems that Porsche's market research indicates that too many people don't know what we already know - that the 911 can be a surprisingly practical car.

Not to change the topic, but does anyone have the feeling that if PAG is starting to market the 911 as a "practical car", then this may be an ominous (or exciting, depending on your point of view) harbinger of what the 991 is going to be (perhaps a slimmed down Panamera)?
In keeping w/ the general direction of the thread:
2 Adults (driver and passenger)
1 Time Trial Bike (in a bike bag)
2 sets of wheels (in wheel bags)
1 Work stand
1 Trainer (not rollers)
Air Pump
Tool Box
Large Gear Bag (change of clothes and racing kits, shoes, helmets, etc.)
Ice Chest
Besides the adults, none of these will form fit into a closed space (sorry I didn't take a picture)

The 997.1 + is perfect for grocery runs with the cloth Eco friendly bags. Fits 4. The 993 cab i am looking at is seriously cramped in the front. I've had 4 large people in the back for limited runs. 2 hours would be pushing it. Then a small dog kennel with 2 small dogs in the back with the seats folded down. All good as a DD. I still occupy 2 parking stalls in the back of the grocery store parking lot to protect against door dings.

Engineered For Magic spot.
All the people in the ad are actual Porsche owners. The guy getting into the White GTS is a member of the Santa Barbara Region.
He went to a 'casting call' sent out to everyone in our region, and was selected to be in the ad. Very cool.
There are also 'individual' versions of this spot, featuring the separate cars/drivers. Here's his...

"They're always put it into the category of a third or fourth car," he said, "not a second car."
This is a perfect statement. It sums up the logic in getting a 911 for our family.
Now, what would my third and fourth car be?

This is absolutely us. A week does not go by when someone doesn't stop me at daycare and say, "I didn't know you could get two child seats in there!" At our monthly car get together (www.caffeineandoctane.com), every person who takes a picture of the car takes at least one of the car seats in the rear. ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

i'm 6'1" 175... another friend up front was 6'1" 180? friends in back 5'9/10" and 160 or so... yes my seat was an inch or so further up than usual but it was fine, we drove 2 hours to the porsches in the park in sarasota and everyone was like "jeez 4 in a carrera!" but it was fine... and hauled em around town other times too.. from clubs and such when other people couldn't drive... lol.
While you may have gotten them in there, I bet they were hating life about 10 minutes in.
Not only is there miniscule leg room, but anyone who is 5'9" or 5'10" would be craning their neck so much they'd need a chiropractor.

At a lot of places here in the US that will invite unwanted attention. I always park away but never take two spaces. In the areas I have lived that is asking for unpleasantness.

Taking up 2 spots in the NYC area would def earn you a keyed car or someone spitting on your car.
I do park far from the entrance to most stores though. I've just learned to deal with the occasional ding, getting them pulled every 2 years or so.
The 997 has been very practical for me as my only car (though I have a few motos)..
-weekly 440 mile round trip
-sometimes 800 mile weekend trips
-150lbs of oak on the roof rack
-folding ladder on the roof rack
-christmas tree wrapped in plastic on the roof rack
-plenty of backseat child passengers
-a few adult passengers (mostly short) for hour long or less rides (removing the back seat back rests helped)
-carrying lots of junk all the time including a full exhaust system and one time a mounted moose head.
I wish the back seat could be increased a few inches without increasing the size of the car.
