"Rough" Cabrio Top
I am looking to buy a 997 Cab, and really like this car except for the condition of the Cabrio top. As you can see from the picture, it looks "rough" and has significant creasing, staining, and a bit of fabric pulling...
Any thoughts how to get this top looking new, or should it be replaced?
Thanks,
-Blake

everyone i have seen looks like that unless never opened (new on lot)...
if u leave down for extended time it gets worse... and can mold if wet because of heat from engine making basically mildew/mold..
i disliked this part about my cab.
notice the dots from where the rear panel pushes against the top as well. i did everything to eliminate... it doesnt go away.

That looks pretty normal, but quite dirty and a bit neglected. With a good cleaning and proper canvas top spray treatment it will look a lot better. But those creases and marks are normal. Something you just get used to.
I suspect that the creases in the Porsche top may depend on how much time the top spends lowered. I had a BMW 330 convertible for 9 years and the top never got creases like that, but I always put the top up when the car was parked. I think the Porsche and BMW tops use similar Haartz acrylic twill fabric.
Thanks guys. I am looking far and wide for CPO'd C2S Cabs, and that is the picture from the only one that I have looked at in person... The pictures sent to me by other dealers look much nicer, but it is hard to tell...

I don't think this has anything to do with quality of the material. I'm pretty sure the same supplier manufactures the cloth tops for Audi, BMW, Porsche, and others. It is the design of the top. The manner in which it folds. Porsche has a pretty unique design, incorporating the top into the finished "boot cover" look of the top when folded down. This is a pretty slick design, but it requires the top to be folded in a way that puts extra creases in the canvas.
