One thing bugs me though; closing technique. Just trying to help.

I know guys say pressing on the badge is okay. OTOH, the eye can detect miniscule irregularities on a flat reflective surface. That's why I ONLY close hood with fingertips on the extreme edge; like this picture (found below). The sheet metal on the extreme edge is crimped/welded together so it's very thick and fully supported.
Thanks for the heads-up. This is something that I should pay more attn to. Right now, I'm trying to not touch the body too much, to minimize fingerprints.

How many of you would freak out if Porsche mandated a solution that involves carrying a flat tire inside the passenger cabin? We all would! Not saying its right nor wrong, just pointing out that Porsche didn't cheap out by not putting a spare for some markets. BTW, I ride with my wife and two kids in the back of my 911's all the time.

You're probably fine, it's not unusual to press on the badge. OTOH, I see it and I semi-cringe. I might be passing my OCD (fingers-on-the-edge) technique VIRUS onto you (joking).

Collapsed spare isn't an issue there as I have the electric pump I can use to inflate it and I can relocate the stuff under the carpet (pump, goop, etc ) if it provides the depth needed.

Ok, in a 4wd 997.2 variant, as it is, the frunk has the following dimensions

Height at back = 20"
Height at front = 15 1/2 "

Depth = 16" (front to back)

Width at back = 27"
Width at front = 21"

Since the collapsible spare is 21" tall when collapsed, it won't fit, standing up, into the stock frunk of an 997.2 4wd variant (Carrera 4, Targa 4, etc) as those only have 20" of vertical space. So angling things seems like its what is needed.

So my question is, why can I not buy that whole kit, with the black plastic stand, through the tools, insert, etc thats in the bag - everything you see there, at the parts counter?

WHY THE HELL NOT?!

I had a spare with cover and tools shipped to me from Los Angeles Dismantler for less money.I

I think it was about $250. and that included shipping and it was brand new.
I mounted the tire with the tools supplied and everything cleared..

Sorry, I am still confused about 997.2 C2S, does it require a different tire or will the 996-362-150-01 or 996-362-020-02 fit.

Thanks,

Alex

Pete: I doubt the wide rear tire fits the front. I think that there's a spare that fits the front.

Huh? Comparing overall dimensions of FRONT caliper and rotors: what's changed exactly between 997.1S and 997.2S?

FWIW, Space Saver spare fits on 997.1 Turbo fronts with 6 piston monoblock and 34mm thick 350mm rotor diameter.

Stevepow,

missed the deflated tire pic completely... Great idea!!!

Looking at the tire standing vertical and seeing the room left for storage it looks like I'll be doing the same thing...
Thank you,

I talked to the people at LA Dismantlers and they guaranteed the tire and tools.... They were very knowledgeable about what I was looking for...
