Which gets us back to : why the heck doesn't Porsche at least kit the spare setup for Honduras destined 997.2's and allow us in the US to order one on our own if we so choose.
I can understand their not providing the plug kit solution due to liability reasons.
Cell provider isn't the issue... unless you mean 'all cell providers' . This moronic push to feed web and streaming movies to cell phones and all other means of pay services is behind part of the reason for the providers abandoning analog cell service in favor of an all digital network. Result: range is reduced and so you only get coverage near population centers and major roads... most of the time.
The ability to chuck a spare/jack/kit into the frunk for occasional long drives through distant terrain that can includes stretches of roads in mountains where signal may be iffy, or the wait for a truck may be several hours at best, has value.

I ordered my rim from wheel enhancements, less $$ than the dealers around here. I'll have it in 5 days. Dave is very easy to work with.
I've put together a spare tire and lug wrench along with the plugs and goop and whatever else that may come in handy .... The biggest problem is what to do with the tire that is removed... The front tire and wheel will fit into the back seat with a little juggling but the rear tire and wheel may be a whole different story. I need the security of having a way to get myself and any passenger back on the road after a flat tire.
I also don't trust anyone else to be as careful as I am when working around the car....
I know this is an old thread but thanks to 997_rich for the inspiration, I relocated my amp (to underneath the spare) and did something similar:
A bit more than $200 in ebay purchases for the 996tt spare and a 986 jack gives me peace of mind. I did a test inflation and drove around the block to prove everything works. Pro-tip: Use the cigarette lighter in the console that has a 15A fuse not the power port in the passenger footwell that is only 7.5A. Ask me know I know.
When I bought my 1st 997 about 3 years ago, I didn't even realize the 997 didn't some with a spare because the shop that did my PPI said the car had all the original complete manuals/tools/etc.and I never even asked or tried to look for the spare - I just assumed it was buried in the frunk somewhere.
My 3 996C4S's all had spares and was original to car so I was very surprised the 997 didn't come with spare.
I'm with the thought that flats happen so infrequently that using the gel sealer kit will do.
If puncture is too big the car will have to go to a nearby shop.
I asked my tire and alignment shop to show me how to plug a tire, which they did. I now have plug kits and cigarette lighter compressors in all my vehicles including the company van. In the case of my 997, I have had to use it once already, and it definitely gives me peace of mind to go on extended trips -- even out of the country -- without a spare. I have also had to use one twice on my wife's Macan, which, in fact, has a collapsible spare. One of those times I was going to use her spare tire, but the rigmarole involved in digging out the spare tire, digging out the jack, and assembling all of the above looked to be a lot of work and take a lot of time, so I simply plugged her tire instead. Since then, I've discovered that so long as the puncture is in the tread, I can plug the original tire in place much, much faster than changing it, and much, much cleaner than dealing with a dirty, full-size flat tire and wheel. I keep a fresh bottle of sealant for any problem that might arise that is unpluggable, but for everything else, plugs are us.
